Worldcrunch & OnePodcast Launch English-Language Version Of Exclusive Italian Investigative Podcast Series
Worldcrunch, the Paris-based international media, has teamed up with Italian audio content powerhouse OnePodcast to produce the only investigative podcast series about the Amanda Knox affair in English.
The project, Murder in Perugia – The Truth About Amanda Knox, allows English-speaking audiences access to the definitive audio series on the case by renowned Italian investigative journalist Antonio Iovane.
The seven-part investigative series revisits one of the most debated criminal cases of the century: the 2007 murder of British student Meredith Kercher in Perugia, Italy. With exclusive interviews from key figures — including Raffaele Sollecito, former boyfriend of Amanda Knox, and Giuliano Mignini, the magistrate who led the investigation — along with original courtroom audio, Iovane reconstructs the case from the night of the murder through the final ruling eight years later.
While Knox and Sollecito were definitively acquitted after four years in prison, the story has never ceased to spark public fascination, amplified by Knox’s ongoing campaign against both the Italian justice system and the global media narrative. The now 38-year-old Seattle native is the producer of the new Hulu/Disney+ series about her case: “The Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox.
” Instead, Iovane launched his investigation without a pre-conceived agenda, taking listeners beyond headlines and speculation, seeking to uncover the unresolved questions that remain nearly two decades later.
The project was made possible thanks to emerging AI-powered voice-matching technologies.
Worldcrunch partnered with Toulouse-based AI audio company Odia to develop the English voice for Iovane, and integrate a range of automated voiceovers for all the Italian interventions in the series.
As Worldcrunch editor-in-chief Jeff Israely explains: “Worldcrunch exists to make international stories accessible to English-speaking audiences, and “Murder in Perugia” is both a gripping true crime narrative and a serious piece of investigative journalism. AI now offers the tools to make so much more audio content available across languages, and we’re excited to continue to expand our use of AI-powered voice matching at the service of the best audio stories and podcast series.”
“The realization of this project is an important milestone, ” says Antonio Visca, director of OnePodcast. “It represents not only a step forward from the technological point of view, but is also an opportunity to bring our stories and best investigative work to an international audience. ”
OnePodcast, part of the GEDI Group (Radio Deejay, La Repubblica, Radio Capital), is one of Italy’s leading creators of original audio content, with more than 22 million monthly streams across over 250 original series. The launch of the English-language version with Worldcrunch extends its reach to a new global audience.
