Award-Winning Podcast “Uncuffed” Returns With New Stories from Inside California Prisons, Told By Those Living In Them

Press Release · San Francisco, United States ·

The award-winning podcast Uncuffed from KALW Public Media returns today with a new season of original stories from inside women’s and men’s prisons in California. Uncuffed offers a unique perspective of the carceral experience because the stories are produced and told by incarcerated producers and people who have returned home after incarceration.

Greg Eskridge returns as host. He was formerly incarcerated and shared his deeply personal journey of coming home last season. This season stories will shine a light on unexpected events inside prison – from a father-daughter dance, to a full-length marathon. Listeners will get to know some of the incredible people inside the walls.

“The stories you’ll hear aren’t just prison stories — they’re human stories we can all relate to,” says Eskridge, who is now also a Co-Director of the Uncuffed podcast and training program at KALW. “These are stories about growing up too fast, about redefining family bonds, about what it means to keep moving when the world seems against you. We make this show to connect with people inside and outside because we have more in common than we think.”

Uncuffed is a project of KALW Public Media. Since 2012, the award-winning program has taught incarcerated individuals how to create audio stories and brought those stories to the public through radio broadcasts and the Uncuffed podcast.
