Left of Dial launches its first original podcast: Tubby
Left of Dial Media is excited to launch its first original show Tubby, a bold, expectation-busting podcast from award-winning filmmaker (Vinyl, When Jews Were Funny, Hurt), podcaster (The Worst Podcast), and noted curmudgeon Alan Zweig. Known for his honest, funny, and deep explorations of insecurity, obsession, and loneliness, Zweig now turns to the subject that has preoccupied him most but remained unspoken—his weight.
“Being fat has been the great behind the scenes challenge of my life. I wanted to make a show that is about being fat that isn’t about all the things all the other fat and weight loss podcasts are about. It’s neither ‘perfect at any size’ nor ‘ten steps to a healthier, happier you’. Just fat people talking openly and without constraints about what it’s like to be fat - the good, the bad, and the ugly.” - Alan Zweig, host of Tubby
Equal parts personal journey and probing conversation, each episode of Tubby brings listeners deep inside the mind of its host and invites them to sit in on intimate conversations with special guests, Alan’s fat friends, and the occasional expert. Sometimes sad, often hilarious, and always deeply human, Tubby unpacks what it means to live being—or feeling—fat.
Season one guests include acclaimed podcasters Alex Goldman (Hyperfixed) and Ronald Young Jr. (Weight for It), Author Kimberley Dark (Fat, Pretty and Soon to be Old), and Washington Post style writer Shane O’Neill.
“I promise that you have never heard people talk about weight and body image like this on a podcast. Left of Dial was founded to champion original voices and Alan is exactly that. His perspective is totally unique and his interviewing style breaks all the rules making for unforgettable moments and conversations just not happening elsewhere.” - Alan Black, founder of Left of Dial Media
Unlike aspirational health podcasts that promise a roadmap to happiness, Tubby offers no miracle diets or ten-step plans. Instead, it’s a counterpoint: a candid, relatable space for those who’ve ever sworn off chips only to cave minutes later, dreaded wearing shorts, or felt terrible looking in the mirror. The show aims to make listeners feel more normal, less alone, and maybe even laugh in recognition.
