The News Movement Launches its Debut Podcast as The Social-first Media Company Grows its Platform Offering
Social-first media company, The News Movement today announced that it will be launching its first podcast.
Offering a space for curiosity, exploration and understanding, TNM’s new podcast Noted, will tackle the issues that are cutting through for a Gen Z audience. From contraception to the cost of living, to disability to drugs, to films and festivals, the series will take a deep dive on the stories that matter. Host, presenter and journalist Mary Mandefield (BBC Radio 1Xtra, TNM’s Make It Make Sense), will take the audience by the hand and invite them on the journey, guiding them through the mind-blowing conversations with experts and real life experiences that will enlighten their world.
TNM will be partnering with Persephonica, one of the UK’s leading podcast production companies, the audio masters behind Ed Balls and George Osborne’s Political Currency, on the podcast series. Persephonica also produces Dua Lipa’s podcast At Your Service for the BBC which has reached a huge international Gen Z audience. Ellie Clifford will be the Executive Producer for TNM’s Noted.
With over 1.7 billion views and 1.1 million followers across its network of owned brands, The News Movement meets Gen Z where they are, providing them with engaging journalism and content to help them understand and navigate the world around them. Noted will offer TNM’s followers an alternative channel to consume the outlet’s signature style of storytelling, while also reaching new audiences seeking engaging and lively discussions.
“I’m thrilled to host The News Movement’s first podcast series, bringing the conversations that young audiences are having to the spotlight and reflecting their interests and perspectives throughout the series. Podcasts are an amazing outlet for curiosity, and I’m keen to explore that; uncovering stories and then sharing them with people who also want to better understand their world.” said host, Mary Mandefield. “I’m excited to be breaking down some of the biggest topics for a young and news hungry audience on the show, and look forward to seeing how our listeners react and engage with it as we grow.”
Launching October 4th 2023, Noted will be a 12 part series, with new episodes dropping every week.
"News podcasts are hugely popular but no one has nailed a topical current affairs show for a younger audience yet,” said Dino Sofos, CEO at Persephonica. “The News Movement, with Persephonica’s expertise, plans to change this. Noted will be truly authentic; presented and produced by a team of brilliant, diverse young women who reflect the audience we aim to reach.”
“As we continue to see an increasing proportion of Gen Z actively avoiding the news, and of these news avoiders, a majority being female, it was important to us here at The News Movement to attempt to meet them with a news show that has been developed specifically with them in mind,” said Kamal Ahmed, Co-Founder and Editor-In-Chief at The News Movement. “Since our inception, we have always gone where our audience is. We know that younger audiences are increasingly seeing podcasts as the source for accurate information. In Mary Mandefield we have a young, up and coming dynamic presenter, our largely female production team brings together some of the best talent in the business, joining together to tackle issues that matter to our listeners each episode.”
Noted will not only be an audio offer, but will be supported by a social video strategy that will capture the key moments and amplify the conversations. The first three episodes will look at the growing trend of plastic surgery in Turkey, a deep dive into UK festivals drug testing, and an interview with former French football star Patrice Evra, on football, homophobia and abuse.
Executive Producer, Elie Clifford said: “Younger audiences care enormously about the world around them, and podcasts give them the opportunity to explore topics in much more depth. With Noted we want to create a show for news-curious listeners which celebrates a huge range of voices; is informative and entertaining; but also leaves listeners with resolutions they can take into their everyday lives.” To find out more, download Noted, wherever you get your podcasts.
