Melbourne International Comedy Festival launches The Callback
The Melbourne International Comedy Festival is thrilled to launch The Callback, a brand-new podcast celebrating the moments that make comedy – and the Festival itself – truly special.
Hosted by beloved comedian and broadcaster Claire Hooper, The Callback dives into the defining moments that shape comedy careers: the first spark that made someone fall in love with comedy, the chance meeting that led to a powerhouse collaboration, or the right people crossing paths at exactly the right time.
Claire Hooper said, “Comedians are entertaining on stage, but it’s backstage where the chats get really good. Talking with artists about their big moments and watching them compare notes with a mate who was there too, I’m living for these weekly conversations and can’t wait for the pod world to listen along.”
Each episode brings together two comedians united by a shared or intersecting moment in their careers. Conversations begin with a deep dive into that pivotal moment – what happened, how it felt, and why it mattered – before expanding into a broader discussion of their comedy journeys. The episode closes with a reflective twist, as each guest is asked to share the advice they would give themselves at that moment, armed with everything they’ve learned since.
Light-hearted, uplifting and, of course, funny, The Callback captures some of the biggest names at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival. The first two episodes drop today, featuring Sammy J, followed by Janty Blair and Wes Snelling.
With 12 episodes this season, listeners will be able to hear new episodes every Thursday from 12 February until just after the end of the Festival. The Callback is available on all major podcast platforms, with full video episodes released weekly on the Melbourne International Comedy Festival YouTube channel.
The Callback is produced by the Melbourne International Comedy Festival – proudly supported by OPPO, the smartphone brand built around moments that matter – and forms part of the Festival’s year-round hub for comedy fans, spotlighting the artists and stories that make the scene what it is.
Australia’s favourite celebration of laughter – the Melbourne International Comedy Festival runs from 25 March to 19 April 2026.
