Podcast has stories revealing Florida abortion law
“Abortion rights have taken a major backslide because people affected by abortion have been afraid to tell their stories. Not anymore,” says Andrea Askowitz, the producer of Writing Class Radio. Writing Class Radio is doing a seven-part series with stories originally told live, Thursday, Sept. 5, in Miami, Florida. Seven storytellers with varied experiences are coming out with their abortion stories including a local Latina who was homeless when she had an abortion; a Black man whose wife almost died because she was sent home after her water broke too soon; a Catholic, Latina OB/GYN who is not afraid to talk about how Florida’s current abortion laws interfere with standard care.
“This may sound counterintuitive, but abortions are standard medical care and they save lives,” says Dr. Cecilia Grande, a Miami-based OB-GYN.
Men are taking a much bigger role in this effort than ever before with two men telling stories. Each story will be released every Wednesday, starting September 16, until election day, November 5, 2024.
Twenty interfaith collaborators including Jewish organizations, Catholics for Choice, All Angels Episcopal Church, and Coral Gables United Church of Christ contributed to this effort for abortion rights.
Produced stories are available for collaboration with other podcasts. Writing Class Radio is available on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Amazon Music and many of your favorite podcast apps. http://writingclassradio.com
