KSL Podcasts and PodcastOne Launch True Crime Series Ransom: Position of Trust

Press Release · Salt Lake City, UT, USA ·

KSL Podcasts, the team behind the chart-topping podcasts COLD and The Letter in partnership with PodcastOne, a leading podcast platform and subsidiary of LiveOne, proudly announce the exclusive launch of Ransom: Position of Trust. This riveting true crime series revisits the unsettling 1995 kidnapping of twelve-year-old McKay Everett from his Texas home.

In September 1995, twelve-year-old McKay Everett was abducted from his home in Texas under chilling circumstances. His father, Carl Everett, returned from an Amway meeting to discover the back door open and a mysterious call from a woman demanding a $500,000 ransom. The ensuing FBI investigation revealed a convoluted game of deceit and manipulation, with the kidnapper using insider information to evade law enforcement. Shockingly, the primary suspect turned out to be a trusted figure in the community and someone McKay trusted who was hiding a dark secret.

Decades later, the case leaves McKay’s mother, Paulette Everett, grappling with unresolved questions and a pursuit for justice that extends beyond the official narrative.

The show is hosted by Art Rascon, an Edward R. Murrow Award and Emmy-winning journalist. Rascon, who reported on the case at the time, shares a personal connection to the event: “This tragic story felt so personal to me. As a reporter, I covered the kidnapping, had children of nearly the same age as McKay, and lived just south of the Everett family. It was a family’s worst nightmare and it touched all of us so deeply. We felt the pain of the distraught mother and, like millions of others, prayed for a happy ending.”

“Ransom is a thought-provoking examination of the automatic trust we sometimes place in those in power,” said Sheryl Worsley, Vice President, KSL Podcasts. “I am incredibly proud of the Ransom team for their in-depth account of what happened to McKay Everett. Our hope is that this podcast will not only honor McKay’s memory but also bring about positive change.”

Kit Gray, President and Co-Founder of PodcastOne, expressed enthusiasm about the series: “PodcastOne is thrilled to welcome the KSL Podcasts team behind Ransom. The dedication they’ve shown in sharing this quintessential example of first-rate investigative storytelling will resonate with audiences.”
