Polyglot brings local AI subtitles and translation to the Mac

Independent developer Dylan de Heer introduces Polyglot, a native Mac app that helps filmmakers, educators, podcasters and other creators turn recordings into subtitles, translate them and prepare video for sharing. Transcription, translation and video enhancement run on the user’s Mac, without uploading recordings or subtitle text for cloud processing.

Polyglot brings the subtitle workflow into one app: import audio or video, generate timed subtitles, add translations, review the text alongside playback and export the finished files. Users can also open existing SRT or WebVTT subtitles and work with them without the original recording.

The app keeps original and translated tracks together in a local library, with search, language filters, batch translation and batch export. Source timings are preserved during translation. When users correct the original text, affected translations are marked for review while completed translations and manual edits are retained.

Polyglot supports SRT and WebVTT export, readable TXT transcripts and bilingual subtitles that pair the source text with a translation. Editing, format conversion and timing adjustments help users prepare files for their next step, whether that is a course, an independent film or a video podcast.

Video tools provide controls for resolution, noise, sharpness and motion, alongside optional local AI enhancement models. Users can preview changes and export a new MP4 while preserving the original. Compression also supports a chosen maximum file size, which Polyglot checks against the finished export.

Speech recognition supports 25 European languages. Translation targets are selected separately, and AI-generated text should be reviewed before publication. Once the required models are downloaded, local media can be processed offline. Downloads, purchases, licensing and update checks use the internet. Usage analytics are enabled by default and can be turned off; they exclude media and subtitle contents.

Polyglot is available now at https://getpolyglot.io for Apple Silicon Macs running macOS 14.4 or later, with at least 8 GB of memory. Optional SeedVR2 enhancement requires at least 16 GB.

The seven-day trial starts with the first transcription or translation job and includes unlimited files, with no account or payment details required. Polyglot Pro costs €29.99 once, including applicable VAT, for one person on two Macs. Pro keeps transcription and translation available after the trial.
