PodToo Introduces New “Podcast Publishing Date” Feature, Expands Support for Radio Syndication
PodToo, a leading global platform for radio show syndication, is pleased to announce a major enhancement designed to give creators and broadcasters greater control over how and when their shows are released as podcasts—while also unlocking new marketing opportunities. By leveraging the Podcast Index standard Live Item Tag (LIT), PodToo empowers producers to promote their shows as live or “coming soon” to listeners on Podcast 2.0 apps, driving engagement and anticipation before the episode even drops.
Until now, PodToo automatically published syndicated shows as podcasts on the same day they aired on affiliated stations. By listening to client feedback, PodToo has introduced a separate podcast release date that allows shows to be discovered on radio first—supporting licensed broadcasters and driving listenership—before making the programme available on podcast platforms at the creator’s preferred time.
This new feature further utilises the Podcast Index standard Live Item Tag (LIT) to showcase to listeners their nearest licensed radio station carrying the syndicated show. How it works is when a user requests the show’s RSS feed, PodToo identifies if there is a station in the users country that is about to air the next episode, if there is, we show that the next episode will air live on that station and the user can choose to listen to that station via the Podcast 2.0 app. PodToo will only show the next station airtime if it is with-in a 15 minute window or if the creator has set settings to always show the next station airing the program.
“Our goal at PodToo has always been to support our creators,” said Russell Harrower, CEO of PodToo.
“When our clients request new functionality, we act swiftly. We recognise the need to strengthen the entire ecosystem—from creators and broadcasters to listeners. With the new LIT feature, we can promote stations in the correct regions and help them grow their audience in real-time. Meanwhile, producers can time their podcast releases to align perfectly with a station’s final broadcast or their own chosen schedule—enhanced by the new marketing capabilities for live and upcoming episodes.”
“Ensuring that our syndicated content reaches listeners in the most effective way possible is crucial,” said Daniel Bailey, Founder and CEO of Noisehouse. “With PodToo’s new Podcast Publishing Date feature, we can prioritise our live radio audiences while still making our shows accessible on-demand at the right time. This flexibility allows us to maximise listenership, maintain exclusivity, and drive engagement across platforms.”
PodToo’s location-based approach addresses key lessons learnt from legal precedents, such as the 2019 TuneIn lawsuit concerning broadcast rights across different regions. Through PodToo’s on-boarding process, radio stations provide information on where they are licensed to broadcast (whether citywide, statewide, or countrywide), along with details on their broadcasting formats (FM, AM, online, etc.). This data enables PodToo to accurately connect listeners with the correct, licensed station closest to them, ensuring compliance and maximising audience reach. By synchronising syndicated radio broadcasts with carefully timed podcast releases, PodToo continues to enhance discoverability for radio stations and create new opportunities for producers—ensuring shows with strong online followings also grow their traditional broadcast audience.
