Podimo and Wondery hatch new translation partnership

Press Release · København Region Hovedstaden, Denmark ·

Following similar partnerships with iHeartMedia (US) and Somethin’ Else (UK), Danish podcast and short form audio subscription service Podimo will translate a number of Wondery’s titles for their listeners in new languages. The Dating Game Killer and Guru will launch in Spanish and Danish exclusively on Podimo in April and May.

The trend for translating podcasts has recently accelerated, and the case for translation is clear for English-language providers: re-recording episodes with new local voice talent in new languages makes those shows accessible to millions more people in markets where English-language content represents a smaller percentage of overall podcast consumption, such as South America, a market that Podimo recently entered.

Jake Chudnow, Podimo’s UK MD, says about the partnership: “We’re very excited to partner with the talented team at Wondery to bring a new global audience to their shows. The majority of podcast consumption on Podimo is in the listener’s home language, so we see the translation of great works like Guru and The Dating Game Killer as an exciting opportunity for English-language productions to be heard and loved by new ears around the world.”

The Dating Game Killer uncovers the twisted secret life of one of America’s most prolific serial killers. When Rodney Alcala appeared as a contestant on the popular TV show, The Dating Game, he was a diagnosed sociopath and convicted child molester. He held jobs as a typesetter at a prominent newspaper and a counselor at an idyllic summer camp. How did this predatory monster fool producers, employers, prison psychiatrists, and parole boards alike – all while committing heinous crimes from coast to coast?
Guru: The Dark Side of Enlightenment
Play trailerGuru - James Arthur Ray was an Oprah-endorsed self-help teacher who achieved fame, fortune, and influence. But friends and family members of his followers questioned his unorthodox methods, and tried to stop him. Before anyone could stop him, though, three people died in a sweat lodge during one of Ray’s $10,000 self-help retreats, leaving many people to wonder: how far is too far in the “self-help” industry?

More listeners will now be able to ask themselves these questions, raised by this duo of popular Wondery true crime series - now in Danish and Spanish for the first time ever.
