Podcast Industry Insights Relaunches with Deeper Data, 7-Year Historical Charts, and New Apple Podcasts Category Explorer
Podcast Industry Insights, the independent source for free podcast-industry data and statistics, today announced the completion of a full rebuild and relaunch at podcastindustryinsights.com. The site, created by Daniel J. Lewis in November 2018, now offers significantly deeper historical data, a brand-new category exploration tool, and an expanded view of the open podcasting ecosystem, all at no cost.
“We give you the data, stats, and insights to help you make sense of the podcast industry,” said Lewis, who built and maintains the site. “This relaunch takes that promise further. Podcast Industry Insights now gives you more historical data, more granularity on podcast categories, and a platform that’s ready to grow with the industry.”
What’s New
Seven Years of Historical Data
All charts across the site now offer time ranges extending back up to seven years, giving podcasters, analysts, and journalists the long view they need to distinguish trends from noise. Whether you’re examining monthly catalog activity on Apple Podcasts or tracking the adoption of Podcast 2.0 standards, the data goes deeper than ever.
Apple Podcasts Category Explorer
The relaunch introduces a dedicated Apple Podcasts Categories page. An entirely new section that lets users search any of Apple Podcasts’ 110 categories and subcategories to view dedicated trend charts for totals, catalog activity, and 90-day active status. It’s the first time category-level growth and engagement data has been made available in this format, and for free to the public.
Expanded Platform Coverage
The rebuilt site maintains and enhances its coverage across three major data domains:
- Apple Podcasts—Nearly 3 million podcasts, over 121 million episodes, with detailed breakdowns of active vs. inactive shows, category/genre activity, episode distribution, and nightly-updated data collected independently by the site.
- Podcast Index—Over 4.6 million discovered podcasts and 162 million episodes, with historic activity tracking.
- Podcasting 2.0 Features—Detailed adoption metrics for modern open standards including chapters (59,000+ podcasts), transcripts (5.1 million+ episodes), funding tags, value blocks, soundbites, and more.
Built for the Whole Industry
Podcast Industry Insights is designed to serve the full spectrum of podcast industry stakeholders: independent podcasters looking to benchmark their growth, industry analysts tracking market trends, journalists reporting on the space, and service providers building tools for creators.
All statistics are free for public use, with optional donations or single-page sponsorship opportunities welcomed to support ongoing data collection and infrastructure.
