Podcast industry pioneer and interactive software investor Peter Levin joins Realm's Board of Advisors
Realm, the industry-leading audio entertainment studio and one of the world’s fastest-growing independent podcast networks, announced today the addition of Peter Levin, a trailblazer in the podcast and interactive software industries, to its Board of Advisors. Levin, a Managing Director and co-founding partner at Griffin Gaming Partners, brings with him a deep understanding of how to grow media franchises into global powerhouses and sees podcasts as a key touchstone with fans.
With a distinguished career spanning various roles at the intersection of gaming and media, Levin has continually pushed boundaries and helped shape the industry. As the former President of Interactive Ventures, Games, & Digital Strategy at Lionsgate, and the Co-Founder and CEO of Nerdist Industries (subsequently acquired by Legendary Entertainment), Levin was a leader in the earliest days of podcasting. Since then, he’s been integrally involved in adapting gaming intellectual property into traditional media form factors. These properties include the “Fallout” franchise at Amazon Studios, Lionsgate’s forthcoming “Borderlands” film and Candy Crush’s adaptation at CBS.
Today Levin is the Managing Director at Griffin Gaming Partners, the prominent venture capital firm he co-founded with partners Nick Tuosto and Phil Sanderson with over $1 billion in assets under management. Their portfolio includes, Discord, Spyke Games WinZO, Overwolf, and most recently Second Dinner with their wildly popular title, Marvel Snap.
Commenting on Peter Levin’s appointment, Molly Barton, CEO and Co-Founder of Realm, expressed her excitement, stating, “I’m honored to have Peter involved with Realm. He is extraordinarily talented and has a keen understanding of what it takes to create new fan-favorite properties and experiences. He and I both feel that podcasts are going to play an increasingly critical role in expanding the touchpoints that entertainment companies have with fans.”
Levin said, “I’m excited to come full circle with my podcast roots and jump into the mix with Molly and the team at Realm. Podcasting has become a ‘must-have’ within the hub and spoke model of creating lasting brand equities. As Realm continues to expand and explore gaming IP, we are ideally positioned to lean in and contribute to their efforts.”
Realm recently announced a collaboration with IGN, a leading authority in gaming and entertainment. The partnership encompasses an ad sales agreement for IGN’s flagship podcasts Nintendo Voice Chat, Unlocked, Beyond, and Game Scoop, as well as joint efforts in developing, producing, distributing, and monetizing podcast titles based on major video game IP. High On Life, the breakout hit from Squanch Games, serves as the inaugural project under this multi-year deal.
Levin joins the ranks of Realm’s advisory board, which includes the recently-announced Tim Ditlow, a legend in the children’s audiobook publishing world, alongside Time 100 alum Lauren Zalaznick, NPR’s Chief Marketing Officer Michael Smith, President of IP accelerator Striker Entertainment Russell Binder, and Marci Wiseman, award-winning producer and former Co-President of Blumhouse TV.
