From sea turtles to pygmy possums, Nocturnal Worlds returns

Press Release · Sydney NSW, Australia ·

Launched today, the second series of the award-winning podcast Nocturnal Worlds: journeys through nature for sleep and relaxation, created in partnership by the Australian Museum (AM) and Audiocraft, is now available to download.

Exploring the sonic worlds of the green sea turtle, mountain pygmy possum and the bare-nosed wombat, the podcast weaves together field recordings from the Australian bush into a soothing symphony of melodic nature sounds and storytelling, creating an immersive and relaxing podcast experience.

Kate Montague, Audiocraft CEO said: "Creating the second season of Nocturnal Worlds has been another audio adventure for our team, taking us to the Snowy Mountains to capture the snuffles of a wombat in the middle of the night and then deep into the ocean to research the coral reef spawning.

“Working with the Australian Museum, we have created a wonderful podcast that connects imagination to scientific fact, enabling listeners to appreciate the nocturnal behaviours of these incredible animals through a wondrous and relaxing audio experience.”

Australian Museum scientists provided guidance on the nocturnal animals featured in series two, which were chosen to highlight the vast array of natural habitats in NSW, alongside the Great Barrier Reef around Lizard Island, home to the Australian Museum Research Station. AM experts also reviewed the podcasts scripts for accuracy and ideas

Megan Lawrence, Head of Digital at the Australian Museum, said: “Through the Nocturnal Worlds podcast, the Australian Museum and Audiocraft have explored themes of biodiversity, environmental sustainability and the natural wonders of our unique ecosystems. "This second series reveals even more scientific insights into the night life of our iconic native animals, while gently connecting people with nature for their own wellbeing.”

The Australian Museum and Audiocraft are keen to further explore Australia’s diverse ecosystems, including our arid deserts and lush rainforests in the next series.

Downloaded by over 36,000 users, season one of Nocturnal Worlds, which featured the powerful owl, the red-crowned toadlet, and the long-finned eel, received the silver award recently in the Sustainability, Environment, and Climate category at the Anthem Awards.
