Aussie news comedy podcast News Fighters to join distributor SansPants Radio

Press Release · Sydney NSW, Australia ·

This article is at least a year old

After self-releasing 50 episodes over the last two years, acclaimed Australian news comedy podcast NEWS FIGHTERS is joining Australian podcast distributor SANSPANTS RADIO in 2021, and will be releasing new episodes weekly starting January 11.

“After making sanitised TV comedy by committee for 15 years it’s an honour to have my self-produced podcast of wacky news clips and leftie jokes distributed by Australia’s top home for irreverent and oddball comedy podcasters,” said creator and host Dylan Behan.

He added: “With the continuing global pandemic, Australia’s first economic recession in a generation and the impending climate apocalypse, 2021 looks like it will be a great year for topical news comedy! Tune in and have a laugh!”

NEWS FIGHTERS is an acclaimed news comedy podcast that hilariously analyses Australian news, politics and the media that is written and hosted by ex-Chaser and Tonightly with Tom Ballard editor Dylan Behan. It has received glowing write ups from MediaWeek (“it’s really very funny”), notoriously fickle comedy blog Australian Tumbleweeds ( “sharp…pretty good”) and has charted in the iTunes Top 25 Australian comedy podcasts chart. It has also been featured multiple times on Sydney’s 2SER community radio and on Dan Ilic’s podcast A Rational Fear (Winner, Best Comedy Podcast at the Australian Comedy Podcast Awards, 2020). Previous episodes have explored everything from bushfires to Brexit to Black Lives Matter to this new Coronavirus thing. Guests and guest hosts have included Australia’s top satirists such as Mark Humphries, Greta Lee Jackson, Chris Taylor from The Chaser, Dan Ilic, RAW Comedy winner Bec Melrose and Tonightly head writer Michael Chamberlin.

Head of Sanspants Radio and self-described “King Idiot” Joel Zammit said “We’re super happy that Dylan has made the misguided decision to join the Sanspants Family! We’ve been dangerously lacking a well informed idiot to help us be more informed idiots and Dylan is the idiot for us (and you!).”

He added: “Dylan is filling a gap we didn’t know we had. Now we can honestly say we are keeping our listeners up to date with what’s going on in the world while still slowly destroying their brain with the rest of the content we produce.”

NEWS FIGHTERS will also be releasing ad-free extended episodes and monthly bonus exclusives for members of the subscription service SansPants Plus.

Who are these people?

News Fighters is created, produced and presented by TV comedy editor Dylan Behan, who spent over a decade working on TV projects with Aussie satire legends The Chaser (including covering four federal elections) before becoming senior editor on the ABC’s controversial daily comedy show Tonightly with Tom Ballard (“Numptys” - Scott Morrison”). He’s also received three Australian Screen Editors Guild Award nominations for his video editing work, studied comedy writing in Canada at Toronto’s famed Second City and spent five years writing and interviewing comedians for The Brag magazine.

Sanspants Radio is predominantly an Australia-based podcast network, with some hosts in the UK and the US. Sanspants Radio, which began its life at La Trobe University in 2012, boasts over 15 regular programs and over 600,000 downloads per month. Recently the network has begun to open its doors to podcasts made outside of the core group, including Hey Fam..! and News Fighters. Popular Sanspants Radio titles include Plumbing the Death Star and D&D is for Nerds.
