New Rockstars Begins Streaming on Disctopia

Press Release · Charlotte NC, United States · via Disctopia ·

Disctopia, the creator-first streaming and distribution platform, today announced that New Rockstars, the pop-culture commentary studio, has begun streaming its catalogue on Disctopia — not instead of anywhere else, but in addition to everywhere the studio already publishes.

That distinction is the point. Disctopia is building for a shift already well underway: creators are no longer choosing a single home for their work, and the categories the industry uses to sort that work have stopped describing it.

The definitions stopped holding

The argument about what counts as a podcast is over, and nobody won. A single piece of work is now an audio episode, a video episode, a vertical clip, a feed item, and a search result — simultaneously. Platforms have spent the past year quietly redefining what counts as a play, a view, and a podcast, and no two of those definitions agree. Creators are the ones left answering a question that no longer has a useful answer: which one are you?

Disctopia’s position is that the question is the wrong one. The platform has carried video alongside audio since 2022, and treats a show as whatever its creator makes it — audio, video, or both, published once and shaped for wherever it lands.

Additional homes, not replacements

The New Rockstars agreement is non-exclusive by design. The studio retains full ownership of its work and continues publishing everywhere it already does. Disctopia serves pre-roll advertising against the catalogue and returns 70 percent of net advertising revenue to the studio, with monthly reporting and payouts.

“Disctopia is becoming the infrastructure the creator economy runs on. The New Rockstars partnership is what that looks like in practice — a studio that keeps its ownership, keeps its audience everywhere it already is, and keeps the majority of what its work earns. We did not ask them to leave anywhere or to call their work something it isn’t. This is just the beginning.” — said Patrick Hill, Founder and CEO of Disctopia.

“New Rockstars is excited to work with Disctopia to distribute our content. We’re very proud of our work and want it to find people where they are. We think the Disctopia experience is going to be a good one for new and existing fans of our work.” — said Zach Huddleston, General Manager of New Rockstars.

Built for any stage of a creator’s journey

The terms offered to New Rockstars are not a bespoke arrangement for a large studio. The same structure is available to a creator publishing a first episode: keep ownership, keep publishing elsewhere, and earn the majority of what the work generates. Disctopia’s position is that a platform should be useful at the beginning of a career and still useful a decade in, rather than asking creators to trade independence for reach.

That shows up in the product as much as the paperwork. During onboarding, Disctopia removed the weekly upload ceiling on partner accounts after New Rockstars’ post-production team reached it mid-delivery — a change now live for every partner account.

Disctopia also recently activated automatic clip generation across the platform. When a creator uploads an episode, Disctopia produces shareable vertical clips with captions burned in. Audio-only shows receive a generated video treatment built from cover art and waveform, so a podcast recorded without cameras still has something to post — one upload, shaped for whichever surface the audience is actually on.
