Nely Galán, best-selling author and self-made guru, debuts Money Maker With Nely Galán with Money News Network

Becoming rich requires financial literacy, especially for communities lagging behind in building wealth. Meet New York Times bestselling author and financial guru Nely Galán, who debuts “Money Maker/Mi Mundo Rico with Nely Galán,” a new podcast that will bring listeners the know-how to embark on a path to prosperity. The podcast is set to launch March 1 on Money News Network (MNN), the premiere podcast-driven financial news and information destination. On her show, Nely brings listeners her hard-won business advice, stories of how being an immigrant informed her entrepreneurial mindset and actionable tips for listeners looking to grow wealth. With the goal of reaching listeners who have traditionally been denied a seat at the table, Nely will tape weekly episodes in English and in Spanish; allowing her to address the gap in entrepreneurial content for the Latino community, while tapping into the burgeoning market for Latino podcasts. “Money Maker” will also feature conversations between Nely and other self-made gurus and experts ready to pass the baton to the next success story. These episodes will be primarily in English with Spanish translations.

THE ECONOMIC STATE OF THE LATINO COMMUNITY IN AMERICA

The research on the need for financial literacy in the Latino community is clear. According to the Conclusion of a report by the U.S. Congress Joint Economic Committee, Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney, Vice Chair, titled: “The Economic State of the Latino Community in America:”

“Latinos constitute a large and growing portion of the U.S. population. Almost two-thirds were born in the United States and almost 80 percent are citizens. It is estimated that by 2060 Latinos or those of Hispanic heritage could make up one-quarter of all residents.

Hispanics are more likely than non-Hispanics to be working or seeking work. They are also significantly more likely to be entrepreneurs. An increasing number of them are college-educated, earning professional degrees and assuming leadership roles in various fields. Businesses with majority Hispanic ownership provide almost 2.7 million jobs to American workers. Because of their increasing numbers, high employment levels, entrepreneurship and increasing levels of education, Latinos will continue to play an important role in the economy.

However, Latinos as a whole still fare worse economically than the population as a whole. On average, they face higher unemployment, lower wages, lower household wealth and higher poverty rates. Foreign-born Latinos are more likely than the native-born to face economic challenges, but their children—like the children of generations of past immigrants—often achieve more economic success. The future of the U.S. economy will depend in part on the ability of all Latinos to realize their full economic potential.”
