Chart-Topping Indie Horror Podcast NATIONAL EMERGENCY Returns for Season 2

Press Release ·

The Midnight Mystery today announced that Season 2 of National Emergency, the independent psychological horror audio drama, premieres October 20, 2026 on Spotify, Apple Podcasts and all major podcast platforms.

Season 1 followed Owen Coleman, an ex-prisoner turned school bus driver, through a series of “Mandatory Directives”: emergency broadcasts that give strict survival instructions, where one mistake can mean disappearing for good. With no network backing, the show climbed into the top 50 Fiction podcasts on Spotify and Apple Podcasts in the US, UK and Australia, and holds a 4.8 rating on Spotify and 4.7 on Apple Podcasts.

Season 2 picks up where Season 1 left off. Details of the story are being kept under wraps until release.

“I can’t say much about Season 2 without giving it away, but it goes places Season 1 only hinted at,” said creator Dean Smyth. “We’re never going to explain where the broadcasts come from. That mystery is the whole engine of the show.”

The six-episode season stars Michael Ursa as Owen Coleman, Maganda Marie as Lisa Parks, Amelia Monarch as Detective Roy Hutchins and Molly St. Louis as Special Agent Sarah Chen, with Jordan Jasmer and Robyn Unger as Dan and Erica.

About National Emergency National Emergency is a psychological horror audio drama written, directed, edited and sound designed by Dean Smyth, an award-winning short horror filmmaker.
