Seattle WA, USA—A lather of independent podcasters today announced Listen, Rinse, Repeat, a creative podcast experiment to help folks practice good hand- washing hygiene.

As part of this experiment, creators are encouraged to write and record twenty- to fifty-second stories, the perfect length for effective handwashing. By queuing up a story and pressing “start” at the beginning of the process, and continuing with lathering and scrubbing until the credits roll, our listeners can be assured they have effectively washed their hands.

This focused pod is the brainchild of Shannon Perry from the hit audio-comedy podcast, Oz 9. “In this time of global public health crises, the one thing everyone can agree on is good handwashing hygiene. As someone who can barely wait two minutes for my microwave popcorn, I need something to entertain me when doing a task I don’t really want to do. That kind of mental engagement helps me do tasks right, every time. We wanted to create something to help us all be sure we are following best practices and maybe introduce an audience to the wealth of talent to be found in the indie audio- drama sphere.”

Washing your hands is easy, and it’s one of the most effective ways to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Clean hands can stop germs from spreading from one person to another and throughout an entire community—from your home and workplace to childcare facilities, senior housing, and hospitals.

The five recommended steps for handwashing are: 1) Wet your hands with clean, running water (warm or cold), turn off the tap, and apply soap. 2) Lather your hands by rubbing them together with the soap. Lather the backs of your hands, between your fingers, and under your nails. 3) Scrub your hands for at least 20 seconds. 4) Rinse your hands well under clean, running water. 5) Dry your hands using a clean towel or air dry them.

The kicker for most people is #3: that twenty-second instruction. Though there have been many suggestions for songs you can sing to mark the time, singing is not always the best solution, especially for kids who might try to “rush” the song to get done quicker. This is where Listen, Rinse, Repeat comes in. With a great variety of story snippets to choose from and a talented roster of voice actors bringing those stories to life, handwashing will become a certain pleasure in this time of uncertainty.

With over 30 creators already on board, this project has talent from a host of great shows, including Carlotta Beautox, Oz-9, Relativity, Sage & Savant, A Ninth World Journal, Oblivity, We Fix Space Junk, Best in Galaxy, and many, many more.
