Tropical Podcasting Documents Where Women Stand in Latin American Podcasting With Three-Part March Series

Press Release · San Juan, Puerto Rico · via Tropical Podcasting ·

Throughout March, in recognition of International Women’s Month, Tropical Podcasting ran a three-part series on women in Spanish-language podcasting.

The series began with original chart research. Using Apple Podcasts data from Podstatus.com across 17 Latin American countries, Tropical Podcasting found that women hold just 1 in 4 spots in regional Top 10 podcast charts. The podcast that repeats the most throughout the Top 10’s in LATAM is 365 con Dios by Peruvian podcaster Wenddy Neciosup. It’s on 8 of the 17.

A second edition featured a community-sourced list of podcasts made by and for women.

The series closed with profiles of five Hispanic women building careers across the podcast industry — from audio journalism at WNYC to podcast advertising sales in Madrid.

“It’s not just about promoting women’s podcasts during the month of March. It’s about giving our colleagues a voice and recognizing that we can contribute just as much as anyone else in the industry.” — Mayra Ortiz, co-host, Qué Está Pasando en el Podcasting
