lABLEd Podcast Returns: A Bold New Season Exploring Disability, Identity and Advocacy

Press Release ·

After a seven-month hiatus, the lABLEd Podcast is back with a much-anticipated fresh season filled with engaging conversations, thought-provoking topics and inspiring guests. Known for its unique blend of humour, insight and advocacy, lABLEd continues to be a leading voice in disability, illness and difference.

What’s new at lABLEd?

This eight-part return sees episodes released weekly rather than fortnightly, with hosts Alice Evans and Lucy Wood diving deeper into a variety of subjects, exploring the intersections of disability, identity and society. From historical figures with disabilities to the latest advancements in technology, lABLEd offers a diverse range of perspectives and experiences.

Highlights include:

  • A Deep Dive into Disability History: Join Lucy and Alice as they chat with renowned disability historian Daisy Holder about their new book on queer and disabled history. Discover fascinating stories of historical figures like Michelangelo and explore the challenges of researching disability in the past.
  • Navigating the Healthcare System: Chloe Hammond, the only wheelchair-using nurse with an assistance dog in the UK, shares her inspiring journey and the obstacles she’s overcome. Learn about the importance of mental health and the need for reasonable adjustments in the workplace.
  • AI and Accessibility: Jon Attenborough joins lABLEd to discuss the impact of artificial intelligence on disability and accessibility. Discover how AI tools can enhance the lives of people with disabilities and the challenges that remain.
  • Disability and Entrepreneurship: Zubee Kibria, a disabled entrepreneur, shares her inspiring story of founding Access My Events, a consultancy dedicated to making events accessible for all.
  • A History Lesson: Ian Dury: Explore the life and music of the legendary British singer-songwriter Ian Dury, who rose to fame in the 1970s punk and new wave era. Learn about his experiences with polio and his impact on British culture.
  • Disability and Media: Join Alice and Lucy as they discuss the representation of disability in popular culture, including the “A Quiet Place” films.

Speaking about their return, Lucy Wood said: “‘We’re so excited to be back with a new season of lABLEd. The team have worked so hard and some incredible guests lined up and we can’t wait to share their stories with our listeners.

“Our goal is to continue to raise awareness about disability issues and to create a platform for diverse voices. We believe that everyone deserves to be seen, heard, and valued.”

Alice Evans said: “Moving to a seasonal production and release schedule was a difficult but necessary decision for us. Balancing creativity and output with fatigue, pain, and mental wellbeing is something many people in the disabled community will be very familiar with. We are so pleased to be returning, and I believe our listeners will think it’s worth the wait. We’ve had the time to cultivate the guest list, plan for content and make sure we’re sharing the stories people really want to hear.”

Season One of lABLEd will be launched on Thursday 31st October 2024. You can listen to the new season and all previous episodes wherever you get your podcasts. You can also follow lABLEd on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram and subscribe to the FREE newsletter, which includes bonus content.
