JAR Audio Names Libby Liburd’s MUVVAHOOD as Winner of 2025 Emerging Women in Podcasting Pilot Competition
JAR Audio is proud to announce that MUVVAHOOD, an original audio documentary by UK-based writer and performer Libby Liburd, has been selected as the winner of the 2025 Emerging Women in Podcasting Pilot Competition.
Now in its third year, the competition celebrates bold, standout storytelling from women-identifying creators around the world. This year’s entries brought an incredible range of voices and visions—but MUVVAHOOD rose to the top.
Blending memoir, investigative journalism, and sharp humour, MUVVAHOOD takes a hard look at the stigma surrounding single mothers. Drawing from her own lived experience—and an unexpected bond with her son forged through boxing—Liburd interviews fellow solo mums, academics, actors, and experts to challenge the myth of the “broken family.”
“I’m absolutely over the moon,” says Liburd. “I’m passionate about challenging bleak representations of single mothers and creating work that’s full of humour, heart and hope. Winning this competition is such an honour—and the support JAR offers will be invaluable as I grow as an audio storyteller.”
As the winning creator, Liburd will work with JAR Audio to produce a full pilot and build a smart, creative marketing and distribution strategy to reach the audience her story deserves.
“This year’s entries were strong across the board,” said Jen Moss, Chief Creative Officer at JAR Audio. “But Libby’s pitch had everything: a clear structure, emotional clarity, serious purpose, and a wicked sense of humour. Proud single mum with a story to tell—what’s not to like?” Liburd, known for her critically acclaimed stage work spotlighting underrepresented communities, now brings her talents to podcasting—joining a new wave of creators reshaping the medium.
The MUVVAHOOD pilot goes into production this summer. Release details to come.
