  • This successful monetization model has already generated more than 1.2 million USD, and has more than 2000 podcasters publishing their content.
  • iVoox creators such as Santiago Camacho from Días Extraños, or the sports journalist Iñaki Angulo with his podcast Fútbol para Inteligentes confirms that it is possible to live off from the podcast revenues.
  • The two of them will share their strategies to monetize in an interesting webinar that will be organized by iVoox on May 19.
  • The main reason why the audience decides to pay for a podcast is to help its creator, according to data from an iVoox survey among its user base.

The leading audio on-demand platform in Spanish iVoox celebrates three years of continuous growth of its Subscriptions for Fans scheme. iVoox pioneered 3 years ago the development of a recurring financial support to podcasts within its mobile apps. It is a tool designed to help the content creator, that has already raised above 1.2 million USD to support podcasters. This has allowed that, among the more than 2,000 podcasters using the tool, some can live off exclusively from the podcast. This makes iVoox the reference platform to monetize podcasts in Spanish.

IVoox Fan Subscriptions allows listeners to financially support the podcast. It is a scheme that can work regardless of the number of podcast listeners, since there are shows with a limited but very loyal audience willing to financially support the content creator. The podcaster can easily activate the Fan Subscription scheme and decide the price from which he will start receiving recurring supports from his/her fans in a wide price range, from 1.49 to 50 USD. IVoox’s fee for empowering and developing the podcaster’s business is 5%. Likewise, the podcaster can know who his/her fans are; the contribution amount, and even contact the Fan subscribers. “We work to help podcasters to consolidate an audience, to interact with it, and to be able to monetize it without losing focus on the audience growth”, points out Juan Ignacio Solera, the iVoox founder.

Listeners, from their part, can enjoy exclusive content thanks to the subscription, in addition to other advantages such as listening without advertising. Users highly value the ability to access exclusive content and collaborate with their favorite podcasters, to the extent that more than 95% renew their subscriptions every month. “This recurrence allows us to talk about a predictable revenue model for the podcaster,” says Solera. The episodes accessible through this subscription are also available through iVoox Plus, a subscription model that includes the entire platform exclusive catalog. Thanks to this service, the content creator earns additional revenues. “Both models are complementary; iVoox Plus allows the podcaster to generate revenues from a large number of listeners that they would not otherwise support the show”, adds Solera.

Branded podcast, a new option to monetize

The leading Spanish audio company also offers other ways to monetize a podcaster show. He recently launched the first specialized advertising marketplace for the Spanish-speaking podcast world, developed to connect podcasters and advertisers.

According to data from eMarketer, advertising spending on the podcast increased by 36.8% in 2020, and podcasting is projected to exceed 2 billion revenue from advertising in 2023. For the podcaster it is a new way to generate revenues, through branded content, a format that allows to design more integrated ad campaigns.
