Humans, On Rights Hits 100 Episodes!

Press Release ·

Back in late 2020, Stuart Murray took over the Human Rights Hub from Christy McLeod, who had started it at the University of Winnipeg. In the throes of a pandemic, Stuart felt the best way to get the word out about its activities was through a podcast.

On February 1, 2021, Stuart partnered with Matt Cundill at the Sound Off Media Company to launch Humans, On Rights. Since its inception, the show has focused on human rights in Manitoba and across Canada. Says host Stuart Murray:

“When I was at the Canadian Museum for Human Rights. I was surrounded by so many human rights experts that I thought that this would be good opportunity to go and explore and find out what’s going on in in Winnipeg. And so the Humans, On Rights podcast was started in 2021. I’ve talked to 99 other amazing advocates, experts on human rights here in Winnipeg, and I’ve only scratched the surface. It’s been amazing to me how many people are so passionate around the issue of human rights, whether it’s an individual or an organization. One element that that always brings it home is how underfunded, and understaffed, these organizations are. They keep their head down. They do amazing work.”

Episode 100 goes behind the mic with a conversation between Stuart Murray and columnist Dan Lett from the Winnipeg Free Press. They discuss the importance of human rights, and question the average Canadian’s grasp of human rights: Do they recognize it as an issue within Canada, or just abroad? Stuart also recalls his 99 impactful interviews with human rights advocates, emphasizing the necessity of conversations and education to foster change.

Humans, On Rights is a bi-weekly show produced in Winnipeg by the Sound Off Media Company, and hosted on Art19.
