Melbourne VIC, Australia—Podcast Human/Ordinary has released the first official episode of its third season over the weekend. Kicking off with a politically themed story, season three of Human/Ordinary promises to continue its trend of producing high quality audio documentaries examining our culture, relationships and all the things that make us human.

The first episode of the season, released on Sunday June 17th, looked at the furore surrounding the recent visit to Australia of controversial right-wing figure, Milo Yiannopolous.

“Political stories are hard,” says producer Sam Loy, “because I think it’s really important to stay balanced and to present the views of all the interviewees in an honest way. But I’m also really worried by the increasing animosity in our political discourse and I think we share more fundamental principles than we’d like to admit, so I feel kind of compelled to help bring us together.”

After a strong and positive response for its second season, the third season will feature a further 5 episodes, each focusing on the activities and beliefs of everyday Australians. Listeners can expect to hear stories looking at suburban professional wrestlers, a woman’s journey with a mysterious life-threatening condition, and the origins and particularly Australian usage of the word “dickhead”.

Human/Ordinary is produced solely by Sam Loy from his home in suburban Melbourne. He says he hopes listeners will find something to relate to in his 2018 crop of stories.

“The whole thrust of my show is this idea that we are all connected because we all have essentially the same range of emotions, feelings and responses. The experiences we have may be different, but we all know what it’s like to be afraid, or to be excited, or nervous, or in love. With my stories I’m trying to communicate this interconnectedness by presenting normal everyday people and the extraordinary things they get up to.”

Human/Ordinary has built a good listenership in Australia and the United States, thanks to its relationship with the Planet Broadcasting podcast network, and to being featured on an episode of the popular Strangers podcast from Radiotopia.
