Headgum Announces First of Its Kind Deal with Hulu to License Jake Johnson and Gareth Reynolds’ We’re Here to Help Podcast
Headgum, the comedy podcast network, announces a first of its kind licensing deal with Hulu for We’re Here to Help with Jake Johnson and Gareth Reynolds, which will begin streaming on Hulu February 10th, with twice a week releases. The new episodes will drop exclusively on Hulu a day before they are available on the podcast’s soon-to-be relaunched YouTube channel. The first new episode will feature actor Lamorne Morris as the guest.
Johnson is known for starring as ‘Nick Miller’ in the Emmy and Golden Globe nominated TV series New Girl, which is a standout performer on Hulu. Johnson will next be seen in Apple TV’s feature film The Dink opposite Mary Steenburgen produced by Ben Stiller’s Red Hour Films, and series Maximum Pleasure Guaranteed opposite Tatiana Maslany. Plus, his fourth collaboration with Joe Swanberg, The Sun Never Sets, will premiere at this year’s SXSW festival.
Each episode of We’re Here to Help features Jake and Gareth making several pitches to callers with their best attempts at advice. Through their banter and comically misguided, and at times absurd, advice, Johnson and Reynold’s show has built a loyal fanbase over its three-year run. Notable guests from the podcast’s catalog include New Girl castmates Zooey Deschanel, Lamorne Morris, Hannah Simone, Max Greenfield, and Damon Wayans Jr., and audience-favorites Dakota Fanning, Jimmy Kimmel, Justin Long, Judd Apatow, Nikki Glaser, Dax Shepard, and Kal Penn among others.
The deal marks the first podcast licensing deal for Hulu, following the success of its Hulu and Disney+ companion video podcast slate that launched this Fall. The lineup includes Only Murders in the Building, Paradise, Dancing with the Stars, Percy Jackson and the Olympians and others. Under the agreement, Hulu has streaming rights to the podcast’s existing catalog and all new episodes, bringing fan-favorite episodes to audiences worldwide.
“Jake and Gareth have amassed such an incredible fanbase over the years, and we’re looking forward to sharing We’re Here to Help with an even broader audience.” said Kaiti Moos, Vice President of Content at Headgum. “Hulu is the perfect partner to help us bring the series into this exciting next chapter, with their creator-first philosophy and global reach.”
Johnson added, “We started this podcast during the actors’ strike over Zoom, and made the show independently, with no real plan beyond making something we liked and staying creative. Licensing to a streamer was never even a thought, so getting to partner with Headgum and Hulu to bring it to more people is pretty surreal. We love making the show, and with New Girl and Self Reliance already there, Hulu feels like the perfect home.”
Headgum is the network behind shows such as Handsome with Tig Notaro, Fortune Feimster, and Mae Martin, The Mess Around with Lamorne Morris and Hannah Simone, What’s Our Podcast with Beck Bennett and Kyle Mooney, and Why Won’t You Date Me with Nicole Byer.
In addition to the library episodes, new episodes of We’re Here to Help will be released twice weekly on Sundays and Tuesdays on Hulu. The podcast will continue to release on audio platforms and YouTube, following Hulu’s early release window. Rabbit Grin Productions produces the series.
