Jonathan Goldstein joins Pushkin Industries to revive acclaimed Heavyweight podcast
After 13 months — and one barren autumn devoid of the new season listeners had come to crave — hit podcast Heavyweight is set to return with new episodes in 2025 as host Jonathan Goldstein and his team of producers join Malcolm Gladwell’s Pushkin Industries.
Consistently cited as one of the best podcasts ever made, Heavyweight finds Goldstein masterfully balancing humor and empathy as he seeks to resolve people’s longest-standing regrets and unanswered questions. The show looks to create a space for the kinds of difficult conversations that most of us put off or avoid entirely — encouraging the idea that we have a right to push back in our relationships, that wrongs can be righted, and that it’s never too late to make amends or ask for answers.
“We’re so excited to be back," said Goldstein. "We have more beautiful stories to tell, and we’re looking forward to telling them in collaboration with Pushkin, a place that understands what it takes to make ambitious narrative work and sets the bar high. The pressure I feel is tremendous,” he added in his signature dry wit. “It’s quite nauseating, really.”
Heavyweight joins a powerful roster of narrative storytelling at Pushkin Industries, which is home to Malcolm Gladwell’s Revisionist History, Against the Rules with Michael Lewis, Tim Harford’s Cautionary Tales, The Happiness Lab from Dr. Laurie Santos, true crime investigations like Deep Cover and Hot Money, as well as award-winning audiobooks like The Bomber Mafia, Liar’s Poker, The Art of Small Talk, Wild & Precious: A Celebration of Mary Oliver, and So Many Steves: Afternoons with Steve Martin.
Listeners can expect even more episodes of Heavyweight each year as part of the revival with a new season officially coming in the fall and additional new episodes starting as early as the spring.
“I’ve followed Jonathan Goldstein’s work since his days making WireTap at the CBC,” said Pushkin CEO Gretta Cohn. “He and his team have created something so singular and beloved in Heavyweight. We are thrilled to welcome the team to Pushkin and give this remarkable show a new home — and bring to listeners long-awaited new seasons.”
This deal was negotiated by UTA, who represents the Heavyweight podcast, host Jonathan Goldstein, and producers Kalila Holt and Stevie Lane.
New episodes of Heavyweight will be produced by Pushkin Industries and distributed by iHeartPodcasts. The show is available on the iHeartRadio app, Apple, Spotify, and everywhere podcasts are streamed.
