London, UK—ESPN is launching a brand new podcast fronted by TV personality Jaime Laing and comedian Alex Lowe. Head In The Game focuses on the biggest sporting event each week, giving listeners all the information they need to know – plus a few laughs – by speaking with experts and super fans. Regular features include a brief history of that sport/event, famous fans of the teams/athletes featured and a quick-fire quiz to test what listeners and hosts Jamie and Alex have learned.

The show will take in a wide range of global sports and events, of which many UK sports fans will be keen to learn more. The NBA London game kicks off episode one, ahead of the eighth annual NBA Global Game at London’s O2 Arena, which this year sees the legendary New York Knicks and the Washington Wizards duke it out.

Future episodes include the Australian Open, the Super Bowl, UFC London, and NCAA College Basketball’s March Madness tournament.

Jamie Laing has featured in a wide array of popular TV shows, as well as hosting his own podcast Private Parts. Actor and comedian Alex Lowe has appeared in hit TV shows such as Phoenix Nights and The Fast Show, while his character Barry from Watford has developed a cult following after first appearing on LBC in 2005.

Commenting on ESPN’s new Head In The Game podcast, Jamie Laing said: “I’m very excited to work with ESPN and Alex on this fun, new project. There is so much great sporting action going on around the world every week that it can feel a little overwhelming for sports fans in the UK. I know I struggle to keep up. Head In The Game is the perfect way to get up to speed on all the important background, so that you can sound like an expert when discussing the subject with your mates.”

Alex Lowe added: “Knowledge is power, and ESPN’s Head In The Game new podcast will make you all powerful, by delivering hot, creamy facts and information directly into your ears, making you stronger than ever before. One listen will have you leaping over buildings, punching through steel and shooting lasers from your eyes. Metaphorically speaking, of course. One thing is for certain, you will be well clued up about the big sporting event that week.”

Charly Classen, ESPN Vice President & GM – EMEA, South Asia, Aus/NZ, also said: “The world of sport never stops, especially as the popularity of sports like basketball, MMA and American Football continues to grow in the UK. So we are very excited to launch ESPN’s Head In The Game podcast with Jamie Laing, Alex Lowe and other ESPN experts to bring sports fans an engaging and irreverent means to discover more about the world’s biggest sporting events. ESPN’s mission is to serve sports fans anytime, anywhere, and this podcast is a great example of our approach to covering sport in as many ways as possible.”

Episode one of the podcast, produced by The Podcast Company, will be available to download on Monday 7 January from major platforms including Apple Podcasts and Spotify. The second episode, on the Australian Open, will be released on Monday 21 January, followed by new episodes every week.
