Escape Room Interactive Podcast Aims to Impact Podcasting

Press Release ·

This article is at least a year old

An interactive podcast is set to impact podcasting as Netflix’s Bandersnatch has impacted streaming video on demand. 3D Escape Room: Frequency is an interactive podcast where listeners play an innovative audio-based escape room in which they must navigate a series of puzzles within 60 minutes.

Interactive content is in high demand as listeners seek a level of control over the outcome, where the results are personal and can be compared socially. By framing interactivity within an escape room, 3D Escape Room: Frequency elevates the listener’s engagement by requiring the use of problem-solving skills to reach the end, resulting in a time that can then be compared against friends.

To further enhance the listener’s immersion, the escape room is presented as an audio drama produced in 3D audio, where the listener is made to feel present in the room, trapped alongside the story’s central characters. It features more than twenty voice actors, sound effects and music.

Escape rooms are booming in popularity with approximately three thousand live rooms worldwide, and for those who have yet to have an opportunity to try one, this free podcast requires only a pair of headphones and can be played either solo or in a group. The audio-based puzzles also provide a fresh challenge for even the most seasoned escape room enthusiast.

We’re thrilled to deliver an immersive escape room experience in such an accessible way and hope this podcast inspires further experimental interactive content in podcasting." - Michel Lafrance, Producer

The podcast is produced by 3D audio production company, The Owl Field, and though this is their first podcast, this isn’t their first foray into interactive audio. In 2016, they released the interactive and multi-ending fantasy, The Fairy Tree, which was awarded the Gold Charles Ogle.

The Owl Field specializes in immersive and interactive 3D audio storytelling. They have won awards for innovation and production, including The Bookseller’s FutureBook Bronze BookTech Company of the Year. https://owlfield.com & @owlfield
