Exciting new plans unveiled for the Elis and John show
From Tuesday 7th April the Elis and John podcast will launch a brand new Patreon channel led by The Adventures Of Elis and John - a visualised monthly series that will feature excursions, activities and challenges with the award-winning comedians and their on-air producer Dave Masterman. ‘Episode #1 - Mini Olympics’ is out now.
As part of the show’s ‘pay what you can’ scheme across three tiers of identical content, subscribers will also get fully visualised episodes of the twice-weekly podcast for the first time, behind-the-scenes fun not seen anywhere else, first dibs on tour tickets and ad-free listening. Head to patreon.com/elisandjohn to find out more.
Elsewhere, the show is also getting its own dedicated YouTube channel. Featuring fan favourites such as Made Up Games, The Cymru Connection and Mad Dads, episode highlights will be released each week alongside other promotional content. Just search and subscribe to ‘Elis and John’, or head to youtube.com/@elisandjohn
For those who simply like everything as it is and wish everything would just STOP, podcast episodes will remain available across all platforms and ad-free on BBC Sounds, while a version of the podcast can still be heard on BBC Radio 5 Live on Friday afternoons.
This expanded offering - led by Elis, John and Dave’s own company Significant Productions - comes after the recent announcement of the show’s involvement with the BBC Audio Release Policy, which allows independent producers to commercialise titles that are no longer licence fee-funded BBC content.
Dave Masterman says: “We’re incredibly proud of what the podcast has achieved over the past seven years as a BBC commission, and we’re delighted to now have the opportunity to expand the show further. Our new Adventures series sees Elis somehow hitting himself in the head with a Javelin, and John has already taken it upon himself to film a behind-the-scenes video in the bath, so it’s been a strong start.”
Elis James says: “Neil Armstrong. Marie Curie. Whoever it was who first put wheels on a suitcase (Steve Jobs?). All of these people were pioneers, sure, but could they have imagined the kind of content Elis James, John Robins and Dave Masterman have planned for their fans? And then REimagined what they just imagined? I suppose we’ll never know (unless the suitcase person is still with us). It’s huge. We do not let this slip. If we end up winning a Nobel Prize, we’ve agreed it’s best for the three of us if John gets to keep it.”
John Robins says: “When people ask me what it’s like being a digital content trailblazer, I just fire up my Harley Davidson and let the engine do the talking. Then I light a cigarette and say “when you’re travelling at the speed of light, you’re always ahead of the curve”. Usually they can’t hear me over the engine, or they might ask me what I mean. But by then I’m long gone, off on another crazy adventure. Or just home if it’s after 6pm or I’m hungry. I have “Waaaaazup!” written on the back of my leather jacket. IYKYK”
