New podcast by Toronto design team delves deep into the world of design
This article is at least a year old
Jennifer Harris, a Toronto-based interior designer with 25 years of experience, and co-host and architect Matthew Feitelberg, have launched a new podcast series called Distilling Design.
The nine-episode inaugural season features a variety of guests from different areas of design. Together, with their guests, Harris and Feitelberg explore what is design, the design process, good versus bad design, and the trials and tribulations of working in the industry.
Throughout the series, the co-hosts walk listeners through different projects and explain how good design makes these projects ultimately successful.
Every other week, Distilling Design aims to expand people’s ideas about design beyond aesthetics, to examine and appreciate spaces, structures and everyday products from a design perspective, and to encourage people to consider the design process in whatever they do. “The design process should be an integral part of everything that is created and built,” says Harris. “We are going to attempt to untangle the mess that is the design world.” says Feitelberg.
Featured Guests on Season One:
- Vanessa Eckstein - Founder and Designer at Blok Design
- Jon Gregg - BIM Specialist
- Kieran Randall - Principal & Lead Architect at Architectural Instinct
- Cynthia Ferguson - Principal Designer at Cynthia Ferguson Designs
Distilling Design podcast is distributed by Simplecast through all major listening apps, Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Google Podcasts, and Amazon Music Podcasts. The first episode is available now and each new episode will be released on the first and fifteenth of every month.

Matthew Feitelberg: Based in the UK and Canada, Matthew completed his undergrad at the University of the West of England in Bristol and is currently completing an MPhil in Architecture at the University of Cambridge. Since Feitelberg began his career in architecture, he has strived to find a balance between the need for quality design and practicality. Feitelberg feels that good design is a right, not a privilege. Thus, it should be the guiding principle of all those who enter the design world. Feitelberg strongly believes that design can be felt in your heart; it is a feeling that envelops and permeates the soul, and it is his goal that everyone should understand what that feels like.
