Double Elvis, the audio-first media company behind hit podcasts DISGRACELAND, BADLANDS and more, announced today a podcast centered around the art of documentary filmmaking, THE DANGEROUS ART OF THE DOCUMENTARY. Hosted by acclaimed filmmaker Tiller Russell (Night Stalker: The Hunt for a Serial Killer, Operation Odessa, Silk Road, etc.), the podcast reveals the fascinating stories behind some of the world’s most successful documentaries. THE DANGEROUS ART OF THE DOCUMENTARY premieres on August 11 with three episodes; new episodes drop each Thursday.

Known for some of today’s most thrilling documentaries, Tiller now exchanges the camera for a microphone, sitting down with other documentary filmmakers for riveting, in-depth conversations surrounding the intricate process of producing an engrossing documentary. In season one, listeners can hear from documentarians including Allen Hughes (The Defiant Ones), James Gay-Rees (Amy, Senna), The Way Brothers (Wild Wild Country, Untold), Jaimie D’Cruz (Exit Through the Gift Shop), Joe Berlinger (Conversations with a Serial Killer: The Ted Bundy Tapes), Mark Lewis (Don’t F** With Cats) and Emmett Malloy (Biggie: I Got A Story To Tell).

“Jake Brennan and Double Elvis are doing some of the most intriguing and original podcasts in the medium,” says Tiller. “It’s an honor and pleasure to be able to collaborate with them on this highly personal attempt to learn from masters of the craft, how they do what they do, and why. For listeners, we hope it’s an intimate voyage into the strange and fascinating game of nonfiction filmmaking.”

Tiller creates character-led films that defy genre and display an incisive understanding of the criminal mind and the worlds that surround them. Having established himself as one of the top documentary filmmakers, his four-part doc series Night Stalker: The Hunt For a Serial Killer, premiered on Netflix in 2021 to critical acclaim (“…certain to keep you in its grips from the opening sequences to the final images.” -Chicago Sun-Times; “…Russell does a magnificent job of unraveling this tightly-knotted mystery and he does so by weaving together chilling first-person interviews…” -Forbes) amongst other films he has directed. Tiller’s masterful storytelling partnered with Double Elvis’ focus on exploring narratives through their variety of audio series results in the ultimate filmmaking masterclass in THE DANGEROUS ART OF THE DOCUMENTARY.

“The foundation of Double Elvis is built on edge-of-your-seat storytelling. No one is better than that in the documentary space than Tiller Russell,” says Jake Brennan, Co-Founder of Double Elvis. “We strive to explore different narratives in our podcasts, and with Tiller Russell’s reputation for innovation in documentary storytelling, our partnership with him has been seamless, and has also allowed us to get an in-depth look into the different mediums of art that we haven’t previously covered in our shows.”
