CrimeCon returns to London with a packed programme
The world’s leading true crime event, CrimeCon, is returning to London this month with a packed line up of leading experts.
Taking place at 113 Houndsditch on 21st and 22nd September, true crime enthusiasts, survivors, victims’ families, criminologists, authors, and law enforcement officers will come together to share their stories in a curious, supportive, and caring environment.
Partnering with leading factual entertainment channel and true crime destination, TRUE CRIME, the two-day programme is jam-packed with outstanding content from top-level documentary makers, investigative journalists, and popular podcasters.
This year, notable guest speakers include world-renowned child-predator catcher and investigative journalist, Chris Hansen, who will explore the world of online criminal behaviour and give a behind-the-scenes insight into how he has ‘taken down’ hundreds of predators across the US, in his session, The Takedown: Battling the Epidemic of Child Predators.
Also being featured is Dawn Dines, the CEO of Stamp Out Spiking, and legendary former Met Police Detective Chief Inspector, Jackie Malton who appeared in Channel 4’s The Real Serpent: Investigating a Serial Killer. They will delve into the chilling case of a notorious serial fraudster and killer whose M.O involved spiking, a crime Dawn’s organisation is determined to eradicate. Dawn will also be discussing the alarming rise in spiking, with over 2,600 cases reported in the UK in 2022 alone.
Additionally, Katherine Schweit, former FBI Executive who spent 20 years as a Special Agent with the FBI will be hosting a live studio session titled, Lessons from the Trump Assassination Attempt: Public Safety in the Wake of High-Profile Threats. After the Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre, Katherine was assigned to create and run the FBI’s active shooter program, authoring the FBI’s seminal research, A Study of 160 Active Shooter Incidents in the United States, 2000-2013.
Joining the line-up this year are Dr Shiloh and Dr Scott, forensic psychologists who will be exploring the phenomenon of false victimisation, pivotal cases and examining how this impacts the true crime consumer. As well as Bexy Cameron, a writer, director, academic and activist will also be sharing her personal stories of manipulation, control, and resilience growing up in The Children of God cult.
Other notable speakers include Steven Keogh, a former Detective Inspector with decades of experience in the Metropolitan Police. He worked on the London 7/7 Bombings, receiving a commendation for his work and spent 12 years in New Scotland Yard’s Murder Investigation Team. Steven will be leading an interactive session, Secrets of a Murder Detective – presented by TRUE CRIME where he will share his experience working on murder investigations, the impact the work has had on him, and why it was the most rewarding part of his 30-year career.
Other sessions include a compelling panel discussion dissecting Sky Documentaries’ gripping series Black Widow. The true story of Dena Thompson, the notorious ‘Black Widow’, will be explored in depth by a panel featuring the victim’s mother, investigating detectives, and the series director who will provide exclusive insights into Thompson’s decades-long campaign of fraud, deception, and murder.
