‘Could It Be Magic?’: Joe Cole and Ashley Cole return for a second season of hit FA Cup podcast

Press Release · via Platform Media ·

Following a hugely successful debut season, former England teammates Joe Cole and Ashley Cole have officially launched the second series of their popular FA Cup podcast, Could It Be Magic?

The podcast, which is brought to you by Carling, the official beer partner of the Emirates FA Cup and Adobe Women’s FA Cup, is back with an extended ten-episode run, promising more insight, nostalgia and locker room gossip from the world of football.

The legendary duo kick-off the new series with a bang, joined by fellow former England teammate, goal-scoring sensation Jermain Defoe. In the brilliant first episode, the trio delve into their upbringings in London, with Jermain offering a candid reflection on his memorable spells at Tottenham, West Ham, Portsmouth and Sunderland.

Co-host Joe Cole, a two-time FA Cup winner, said: “I’m buzzing to be back with Ash to talk all things FA Cup. It’s such a special tournament and getting to relive some memorable moments from our careers as well as talk to our guests about their memories, is just the best gig ever. Jermain is the perfect guest to kick things off - his passion for the game and the Cup is infectious and it was a lot of fun looking back but also forward to what’s happening this season.”

Ashley Cole added: “It was brilliant to have Jermain on the show - he’s a natural storyteller and you can just feel his deep love for the game. That’s what this podcast is all about – getting together with your mates and getting into the weeds of everything football. We can’t wait to reveal some of the amazing guests we’ve got lined up too… watch this space!”.

The podcast found instant success in its debut season, with content from the show hitting a remarkable 11.9m video views across the first three episodes alone. Full podcast episodes were streamed well over 150,000 times, securing the show’s place in the top 20 sports podcasts charts on both Apple Podcasts and Spotify.

Rachel Bailey, Marketing Controller for Carling said “Carling has supported British football for over 30 years so it’s been brilliant to work with Joe and Ashley on this show. We’re thrilled to be back for a second season. The line-up of football legends is amazing and we’re really looking forward to bringing in some of the players, managers and coaches involved in this year’s FA Cup tournament across both the men and women’s competition.”

New episodes of Could It Be Magic? are released on a Thursday before each round of this season’s FA Cup competition.

You can watch the show on YouTube and Spotify or listen to it wherever you get your podcasts.
