Who Took Nancy Baird? COLD Reopens a Case Blamed on Ted Bundy

KSL Podcasts announced the return of its award-winning investigative series COLD with a new season examining the 1975 disappearance of Nancy Perry Baird. It’s a case that’s been wrongly attributed to serial killer, Ted Bundy. The first two episodes of COLD’s new season premiere on September 23, 2026 with new episodes each Wednesday. 

The Case 

Nancy Perry Baird was 23 years old when she vanished from the gas station where she worked in East Layton, Utah, on July 4, 1975. Ted Bundy was arrested six weeks later, 30 miles to the south, in an unrelated case. Police later pinned Baird’s disappearance on the notorious serial killer, despite no evidence connecting Bundy to the case. For decades, the “Nancy Baird was a Ted Bundy” conclusion went unchallenged. 

That changed during COLD host Dave Cawley’s reporting when he interviewed a former police officer who worked the Nancy Baird case. The officer’s own daughter heard the interview and recognized something no one else could: a connection between her family’s closely guarded secrets and what may have happened to Nancy Baird.

“Our original reporting on the Nancy Baird case in 2023 set events in motion, demanding we expand the story in a whole new season”, Cawley said.  

COLD’s re-investigation of the Nancy Baird cold case touches on important themes. It shows how abusers use tools of charisma and deception to disguise their true nature. It raises questions about the role of forgiveness. And demonstrates how survivors of childhood trauma can take power back from the people who harmed them.
