CBS News and Paramount Audio Announce Fall Slate of New and Returning Podcasts

Press Release · Los Angeles, CA, USA ·

CBS News today announced its fall slate of new and returning podcasts. The lineup consists of new shows and new seasons produced by Paramount Audio and features veteran correspondents such as Erin Moriarty (“48 Hours”) and Mo Rocca (“CBS News Sunday Morning”) hosting podcasts about life, death, and true crime.

The new slate expands CBS News’ position as a leading brand in on-demand audio content. This original content compliments the world-class journalism CBS News is producing across all platforms. In fact, downloads for podcasts tied to the “48 Hours” franchise doubled from 2021 to 2022, and in 2023, those numbers are already outpacing total annual downloads from the previous year.

“CBS News is one of the most trusted news sources around the world, and we are committed to making sure all audiences, not just our broadcast fans, have access to our reporting and the interesting stories they expect from our team,” said Steve Raizes, EVP of Podcasting & Audio at Paramount. “Our hosts, such as Mo Rocca and Erin Moriarty, are using audio to take their passions to new places that are only possible in podcasting and we are confident that the stories we are showcasing alongside Paramount Audio will resonate with listeners everywhere.”

The lineup of CBS News podcasts premiering and returning for new seasons this fall includes:

“Post Mortem from 48 Hours” (September 19, 2023) One of television’s most popular true-crime series is taking listeners behind the crime scene tape with “Post Mortem”. Whether you’re new to “48 Hours” or a longtime fan, the team behind the show knows you have questions about the cases they report each week and how they report them. Award-winning correspondents and producers will discuss the key evidence, dead ends, mishaps, and stranger-than-fiction twists. Suffice it to say “48 Hours” will be conducting a thorough POSTMORTEM on the case. Watch “48 Hours” Saturday 10/9c on CBS and Paramount+ then debrief on the case with “Post Mortem” every Tuesday on the “48 Hours” podcast feed.

“Agent of Betrayal: The Double Life of Robert Hanssen” (September 28, 2023) Amid the nuclear threat of the Cold War, America’s prized secrets were falling into the hands of its sworn enemy. The FBI’s hunt for the leak led to an astonishing discovery—the mole was one of its own, special agent Robert Hanssen. For two decades, Hanssen masqueraded as a devoted patriot while ruthlessly selling out his country, trading classified intelligence to the Soviet Union and later Russia, in exchange for cash and diamonds. He was a whirlwind of contradictions – a self-proclaimed patriot and a traitor, a family man who sexually betrayed his wife, an ardent man of God, and a sinner. Through interviews with Hanssen’s family, friends, and colleagues, CBS News Chief Washington Correspondent Major Garrett (host of “The Takeout”) delves into the secret life of Robert Hanssen and unravels the chilling truth about the most damaging spy in FBI history in “Agent of Betrayal: The Double Life of Robert Hanssen”.

“Mobituaries with Mo Rocca” - Season 4 (October 4, 2023) “CBS News Sunday Morning” correspondent Mo Rocca has always loved obituaries. Each episode of “Mobituaries” covers his favorite dearly departed people and things. This season profiles legendary athlete Jim Thorpe in “Death of an All-American,” iconic singer/songwriter Peggy Lee in “Death of Cool.” and even the death of the mid-Atlantic accent, best known from the likes of Katharine Hepburn, Franklin Roosevelt and Jacqueline Kennedy. Rocca even has a few new things in store including an episode that looks back at folks who ”Died on the Same Day.” Think: Michael Jackson and Farrah Fawcett; John Adams and Thomas Jefferson; Jim Henson and Sammy Davis, Jr. Tune in for fresh takes on famous legacies and tributes to people who never got the sendoff they deserved. Even if you know the names, you’ve never understood why they matter until now! Premiering on October 4, 2023, “Mobituaries” is a co-production with iHeartPodcasts.

“My Life of Crime with Erin Moriarty” - Season 4 (October 18, 2023) “48 Hours” correspondent Erin Moriarty takes you inside true-crime investigations like no one else, taking on killers and those accused of crimes. This season she delves into the labyrinth of crime within families and the secrets that kept them together or tore them apart. Moriarty brings almost three decades of experience as a lawyer and reporter involved in murder cases — she brushes past the speculation to the evidence and talks to the people directly involved, including investigators and the families of victims. Follow along Erin’s journey as she goes beyond the scene of each crime, behind prison walls, and into the killers’ inner thoughts. It’s all on this season of “My Life of Crime”.
