CBC, Canada’s national public broadcaster and the #1 Canadian podcast publisher, announced today the launch of CBC True Crime, a premium subscription channel, available exclusively to international subscribers via Apple Podcasts starting tomorrow (May 11, 2022). This genre-focused podcast channel is the first of its kind on the platform, and will be available in a free, ad-supported format, as well as ad-free for a monthly fee.
CBC Podcasts is known globally for its critically acclaimed, chart-topping investigative series, including Someone Knows Something, Uncover, Hunting Warhead and more. With CBC True Crime, international subscribers will have early access to upcoming releases – such as Someone Knows Something Season 7: The Abortion Wars (launching May 11 on the CBC True Crime channel; May 25 general release) – alongside ad-free content from CBC Podcasts’ true crime catalogue, including the award-winning Escaping NXIVM, Missing & Murdered: Finding Cleo, and The Village.
“CBC Podcasts’ diverse true crime slate resonates with audiences worldwide due to its engaging and thoughtful reporting, and series that share the stories of marginalized and underrepresented communities with authenticity, empathy and great care,” said Barbara Williams, Executive Vice-President, CBC. “We are proud to provide international Apple subscribers with this premium listening channel featuring best-in-class Canadian-made content, to further enhance their experience of CBC Podcasts’ world-class productions.”
CBC True Crime will be available to Apple Podcast listeners in the US, the UK, Australia, New Zealand, Ireland, Norway, Sweden and Germany. The subscription model will continue to allow listeners to access CBC’s sponsorship-supported podcasts for free; subscribers who wish to avoid sponsorship messages can do so for a monthly subscription fee.
Early access content available to international Apple listeners will be available to Canadians, free of cost, via CBC Listen, CBC’s audio streaming service.
