Buxton Fringe Weekly focuses on the Derbyshire spa town's annual arts festival

Press Release · Buxton, United Kingdom ·

Following her hyper-local series Great Days Out on the bus from Buxton, Producer Maria Passingham is launching a new podcast dedicated to capturing the stories, voices, and atmosphere of Buxton Festival Fringe.

“Our small town in the middle of the country punches above its weight when it comes to culture. The Fringe is one of my favourite things about living here, but it can be overwhelming! I wanted to make a podcast that helps people discover great shows, and captures the atmosphere and creativity that makes the Fringe so special” says Maria.

As both a lover of culture, and a fastidious planner, Maria will be equipping listeners throughout the Fringe with all they need to decide who to see, where to go, and what hidden gems await in the town’s back rooms, shop fronts, and public spaces.

“If you’re the type to find yourself standing in Pavilion Gardens with a handful of flyers, ten minutes until the next show starts, and no idea what to see next…. This is the guide you need” Maria promises in the trailer.

Buxton Fringe Weekly will feature conversations with comedians, actors, musicians, poets, and filmmakers, and hear reactions from audiences fresh out of shows and stories from the streets. Familiar favourites and first-timers alike will join Maria each week to hype up their shows, spill some behind the scenes intel, and help listeners determine their Fringe plans. With a considerable amount of production happening during the Fringe, the podcast will be reactive and dynamic, responding to live events and unfolding surprises.

Maria’s podcasts have a history celebrating the places and people around her, and Buxton Fringe Weekly is no different. That includes audience members! Listeners are encouraged to leave a voice note online or via email, reviewing the shows that have wowed or surprised them.

Episode 1 launches on the first day of the Fringe (8th July), and new episodes follow each week.

Buxton Fringe Weekly is produced in collaboration with Buxton Festival Fringe. Hear more of Maria’s podcast work here.
