British Podcast Awards: the winners, 2024

Press Release · London, UK ·

The 2024 British Podcast Awards took place at HERE at Outernet in Central London. The star-studded event was hosted by comedian and podcaster Marcus Brigstocke, with category presenters including Rylan Clark & Scott Mills, Annie Mac, Olivia Atwood, Emily Maitlis, Jon Sopel & Lewis Goodall, Joanne McNally, Jordan North & William Hanson and Hilary & Michael Whitehall.

In a poignant moment, Dr Clare Bailey Mosley accepted the 'Hall of Fame’ award on behalf of her late husband, Dr Michael Mosley, for his hugely popular BBC podcast Just One Thing – which encourages listeners to improve their health and wellbeing with small changes.

This marked one of Clare’s first public appearances since Michael’s death in June, and her heartfelt speech deeply moved the audience, especially Michael’s long-time BBC colleagues in attendance. Clare Mosley said: “Firstly, I wish more than anything that Michael was here himself to be collecting this award. Michael knew that Just One Thing had really connected with people, he loved the simplicity of the format and being able to genuinely help people. The outpouring to me and my family in the last 3 months has shown us that it wasn’t just the podcast they loved, it was Michael too.”

She concluded with a touching reminder: “Life can be shorter than you ever imagine, and so if there’s One Thing you do today, hug your loved ones, tell them they are loved, don’t ever take time for granted.”

Lily Allen and Miquita Oliver’s hit Miss Me? (Persephonica for BBC Sounds), a celebration of their enduring and now long-distance friendship, took home the gold in the Best Entertainment Podcast category, having launched in March of this year.

Political heavyweights Rory Stewart and Alastair Campbell’s The Rest Is Politics (Goalhanger) was crowned Podcast Champion, recognising its significant impact on the podcasting landscape. Since its launch, the podcast has taken up near-permanent residence at the top of the podcasting charts.

The News Agents (Global) trio - Emily Maitlis, Jon Sopel, and Lewis Goodall - continued their winning streak, securing gold in the Best News & Current Affairs Podcast category and winning the Spotlight Award.

Podcast of the Year was awarded to Audible’s Press Play, Turn On (Audible), which dives into the world of audio pornography for queer and disabled people.

Fan-favourite Help I Sexted My Boss (Audio Always) hosted by Jordan North and William Hanson, won the coveted Listeners’ Choice Award, showcasing its enduring popularity among podcast enthusiasts as the sole award of the night determined by public voting.

In a poignant triumph, Future Dreams charity’s And Then Came Breast Cancer hosted by Victoria Derbyshire claimed gold in the Best Wellbeing Podcast category.

The British Podcast Awards continues to celebrate the diverse and ever-growing podcast industry in the UK, highlighting both established names and emerging talent. This year’s winners reflect the wide-ranging creativity and innovation available to podcast listeners across the nation.
