Becca James

Becca James joins Good Tape as Managing Editor

Press Release · Los Angeles, CA, USA · via Good Tape ·

Good Tape has named Becca James to its masthead today as Managing Editor, continuing its commitment to expand entertainment coverage from podcasting’s unique vantage point.

James’s first experience with podcasts was listening to Kevin Smith’s “SModcast” (the proto-celebrity chat show) circa 2007. Since then, her long and varied journalism career has spanned restructuring and editing The A.V. Club’s Podmass column, and covering the perpetually peaking, ever-evolving world of podcasting for various outlets, including Vulture. James is succeeding Good Tape’s founding editor Alana Hope Levinson.

In addition to working in senior staff positions for The A.V. Club and Thrillist as an editor and writer focused on pop culture coverage, she has regularly contributed to Vulture’s podcast columns “Start Here” and “This Week in Comedy Podcasts.”

“I’m excited to be once again immersed in the medium,” said James. “Good Tape has a history of essential, thought-provoking storytelling, and I believe it’s the perfect place to continue elevating cultural and critical coverage of podcasting during a time of great change for the community.”

“From the beginning, Good Tape’s mandate has been to cover the podcasting industry with care and precision,” said Dane Cardiel, Good Tape’s founder and publisher.  “Becca’s editorial instincts, institutional knowledge, and ability to cultivate curiosity into content will continue to ensure Good Tape as a destination for sharp commentary about podcasting’s cultural impact.”

Good Tape is set to publish its third annual print edition, The Threat Issue, this fall. You can sign up for more updates at GoodTape.com.
