Diverse industries drive Aussie podcast ad spend growth in Q2 2026

Press Release ·

Alcohol, Automotive and Home Goods emerged as some of the fastest-growing podcast advertising categories in Australia during Q2 2026, according to ARN’s iHeart and Magellan AI quarterly report.

More data

The latest data shows Alcohol advertising recorded the strongest quarter-on-quarter increase, with podcast advertising spend increasing 58% from Q1 to Q2 2026 and 44% year on year. Auto followed with growth of 36%, while Home Goods and Financial Services each increased 35% and Travel rose 25% when comparing to the previous quarter.

While major consumer and finance brands continued to dominate the top advertiser rankings, the fastest-growing categories point to a broader shift in podcast investment, with a wider range of industries increasing their use of the medium to reach highly engaged audiences.

Airbnb remained Australia’s top podcast advertiser in Q2 2026, followed by Wise, Shopify, Entain Group and CommBank. McDonald’s, Aussie Broadband, DoorDash, Booking.com and Harvey Norman rounded out the top 10.

News remained the genre with the highest advertiser ad load at 6.49%, followed by Arts at 6.25%, Business at 5.72%, Sports at 5.19% and True Crime at 4.97%.

Across campaign execution, 30-second ads remained the most common ad length, accounting for 39% of ads detected in Australia, while mid-roll placements represented 50% share of all ad positions.

ARN’s iHeart and Magellan AI quarterly report provides trend-based insights to support brands in effectively integrating podcasts into broader marketing strategies, including analysis across advertiser categories, genre performance and ad placement trends.

Corey Layton, ARN’s Head of Digital Audio, said: “What’s interesting about this quarter’s data is the breadth of categories increasing their investment in podcasting. While major travel, retail and finance brands continue to be strong performers, we’re also seeing categories like alcohol, auto and home goods accelerate their use of the medium. It showcases how podcasting is now a mainstream environment for brands looking to build attention, trust and connection with highly engaged audiences.”
