New York NY, USA—Atlantic Podcasts has announced the launch of an exclusive new documentary series. INSIDE THE ALBUM will offer an unprecedented look into how great albums get made, revealing the extraordinary process behind records spanning Atlantic Records’ current artists and legendary catalog. INSIDE THE ALBUM will be available for download and streaming across Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts, Spotify, and all leading providers beginning September 5th.
Hosted by veteran producer/author Jesse Cannon (The Cure, Animal Collective, “Weird Al” Yankovic), INSIDE THE ALBUM will explore all aspects of the creative process, from inception to release, via interviews with the key players behind the music – songwriters, musicians, producers, label executives, industry professionals, friends, family members, and more. Each episode will focus on one singular work through in-depth conversations that truly get to the heart of how that record grew from idea to reality, complimented by exclusive commentary, archival audio, and Cannon’s insightful narration. A remarkably diverse range of artists will be featured throughout the series, including Dashboard Confessional, Vance Joy, Brent Cobb, Wallows, nothing, nowhere., grandson, the award-winning creators of Atlantic’s “MEAN GIRLS ORIGINAL BROADWAY CAST RECORDING,” and multiple GRAMMY® Award-winner Jason Mraz.
“I have read, watched and listened to hundreds, if not thousands of behind-the-scenes interviews on how records get made,” says Cannon, “but you are always struck that it seems like filler talking points and the artists are hiding behind the facades of what they are supposed to say. Atlantic allowed me to finally peak behind this facade and what we got was the most real look at what is actually happening as people make the exceptional music the label has put out over the years.
“The artists and their teams expressed so much vulnerability and were so excited to finally get to talk about what really goes on in their lives; I was continually floored by what I heard went down while making these amazing records.”
INSIDE THE ALBUM follows Atlantic Podcasts’ hugely popular debut podcast series, WHAT’D I SAY, available now for download and streaming across Apple Podcasts, Google Play, and all leading podcast providers. The series – which of course takes its name from the classic Ray Charles song, released by Atlantic Records in 1959 – features an inside view of the art of songcraft told though intimate interviews with some of Atlantic’s most compelling current artists. Among the artists featured in the series’ first season are Jason Mraz, Hayley Kiyoko, Whethan, MILCK, Lil Skies, Chappell Roan, Trivium, Sweater Beats, Josie Dunne, Elderbrook, Soleima, and Molly Kate Kestner.
WHAT’D I SAY has fast proved a sensation, reaching the top 15 on overall podcast charts with over 30,000 listens in just its first two months online. The second season launches next with guests ranging from Savannah Conley, Dead Sara, Jess Glynne and more. For more information, please visit atlanticpodcasts.com.
