Apple TV+ announces The Line, an original podcast and documentary series
This article is at least a year old
Apple TV+ announced today “The Line,” two non-fiction series — a six-part narrative non-fiction audio series hosted and executive produced by Dan Taberski (“Missing Richard Simmons,” “Surviving Y2K,” “Running from COPS”), which debuts today, April 6, on Apple Podcasts — and a groundbreaking four-part limited documentary series premiering this fall.
These Apple original series are independently reported and offer a unique perspective on previously untold aspects of the story of US Navy SEAL Eddie Gallagher who was charged with committing war crimes, before ultimately being acquitted on all but one count — for posing for a photo with a corpse. Both series will examine the complicated realities involved with fighting a decades-long war, stripping back the layers surrounding Gallagher’s alleged crimes, with the documentary series featuring the young men in his unit that went outside the chain of command to accuse him in front of the world.
The immersive Apple TV+ original podcast employs exclusive investigative reporting, one-on-one interviews with Gallagher and his wife, and extraordinary access to over 50 current and former special operators, giving listeners an inside understanding of the psychological toll on service members embroiled in ceaseless warfare, the secretive culture of one of the military’s most elite special operations units, and the struggle for justice in the fog of war.
The first two episodes of The Line are available now on Apple Podcasts (apple.co/the-line) and via RSS. New episodes will premiere weekly each Tuesday through May 4.
Later this fall, audiences will have the opportunity to experience another angle on this gripping story, including hearing from the young men in Gallagher’s unit who broke tacit rules of “handling it all in the teams” to accuse their chief of war crimes, with a four-part limited documentary series which will be available exclusively on Apple TV+. Featuring never-before-seen footage, the series will delve deeper into the enduring US counterterrorism effort in the Middle East.
The audio series, a Jigsaw Production, is executive produced by Brad Hebert, Richard Perello, Stacey Offman, Joey Marra and Alex Gibney, in addition to Taberski. Lizzie Jacobs serves as producer and Jody Avirgan as editor. The documentary series, a Jigsaw Production, is directed by Jeffrey Zimbalist (“Momentum Generation”) and executive produced by Alex Gibney, Brad Hebert, Richard Perello, and Stacey Offman, alongside Michael Zimbalist and Jeffrey Zimbalist from All Rise Films, with Doug Shultz as producer, and Whitney Johnson.
