Press Release ·

This article is at least a year old

Acast UK is launching a series of masterclasses aimed at underrepresented groups in podcasting. Called Aclass, the workshops will run every other month and will seek to help unheard voices in audio learn how to create and grow a successful podcast.

Aclass will launch with its first masterclass on Monday 22nd July called Show Your Colours, aimed at members of the LGBTQ+ community who are new to or just getting started in podcasting. As well as talks and workshops from Acast experts, attendees of each Aclass session will also get to hear from a podcaster who has navigated their way to real success, starting with a Q&A session with James Barr of hit podcast A Gay And A NonGay. Future sessions will speak to women in podcasting, black voices, teenagers, voices from around the UK and more.

In addition to the masterclass, attendees new to podcasting are being offered free studio time at Acast’s central London office. Anyone with little or no previous experience of using podcasting equipment can apply to use the Acast studio on Thursday 22nd August to try out an idea or a pilot, as well as receive advice and tips from the Acast UK studio team.

Sophie Herdman, Acast UK’s content director said: “A big part of our mission at Acast is to ensure that we are helping to build as rich and diverse a podcast industry as possible. We have created the Aclass programme to hopefully inspire unheard voices to try podcasting, and give them some of the tips and advice they need to make their very first show and make the most of this unique medium. We’re so pleased that A Gay And A NonGay co-host James Barr is joining us for the first masterclass so we can all learn from his amazing journey. He and Dan Hudson have grown their show into a really successful and inclusive podcast for everyone, no matter their sexuality or gender identity. We’re excited to hear the other voices we might be able to inspire to take up the mic over the coming months.”

You can apply to take part in the Aclass Show Your Colours event at Acast’s central London offices on Monday 22nd July here: http://bit.ly/AclassLGBTQ For further information email aclass@acast.com.

Please note you must be over the age of 18 to apply for this event. The masterclass will start at 6.00pm. Spaces are limited. Aclass studio slots will be available from 9am - 9pm on Thursday 22nd August.
