Get your mind moving with the ABC’s new travel podcast
This article is at least a year old
Return Ticket takes you on tours of some of the world’s greatest global destinations - both the familiar and the unexpected places - where you will encounter some fascinating, lesser-known stories.
A journey of the mind, rather than a backpacker’s guide, Return Ticket invites you to globetrot from the comfort of your couch!
In Episode 1, the podcast heads to London and quickly descends underground to discover a rich history via its tunnels, tubes and 'iceberg’ mega-mansions of the ultra-rich… In later episodes we go in search of the ‘real’ Bali, meet the people who sort out all the garbage in NY, and get around Beijing on a bike… And that is just for starters.
Jonathan Green is the host of ABC Radio National’s Blueprint for Living program and has been an editor, writer and commentator and broadcast for over 40 years. He is the author of Around Australia In 80 Days (2004) and The Year My Politics Broke (2013). He has been editor of literary quarterly Meanjin since 2015.
Return Ticket utilises the magic of digital audio. The listener knows Jonathan is not actually leaving his home studio in Melbourne, Australia, to travel the globe, but using clever sound design alongside interactions and scripted sequences with talent and “guides,” he calls on listeners to suspend their disbelief and go on the ride with him. We will make you laugh, we will move you, and we will open your mind.
