108.9 The Hawk launches season seven with special guest Rekha Shankar
108.9 The Hawk, the improvised comedy podcast set inside Val Verde’s second favorite classic rock radio station, has officially launched Series Seven with special guest Rekha Shankar.
The show has built a loyal fan base around its strange collision of classic rock radio, long-form improvisation, fake commercials, and an ever-growing fictional universe.
The Series Seven premiere, “A New Happy Birthday Song with Rekha Shankar,” is available now at 1089thehawk.com and as a Full Broadcast on YouTube.
Shankar returns to The Hawk as Amelia Dorch, Val Verde’s number one songwriter, who arrives at the station with an ambitious new project: retiring “Happy Birthday” in favor of an entirely new birthday anthem.
Naturally, the replacement involves pepperoni, extra sauce, unbelievable pizza deals, and the immortal phrase:
“No crust or bust, it’s your birthday.”
Shankar is a writer and performer known for Dropout’s Game Changer, and for hosting Smartypants. She also wrote for Grand Crew (NBC) and Digman! (Comedy Central), and has appeared in Between Two Ferns: The Movie and Hacks. She is also a regular performer at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre.
