AI for Producers (Virtual Water Cooler for Audio Producers)

By AIR (Association of Independents in Radio)

This Virtual Water Cooler will discuss the topic of AI for Producers.

AI is the latest, but arguably greatest threat to journalism. Zero-click summary searches scrape digital news and kill traffic to sites. Generative AI sucks up copyrighted work and spits out imitations. The work it generates, often fueling fake news, not only enriches tech companies at the expense of journalists, it also threatens to erode the power of the fourth estate and even our democracy.

Join AIR member, journalist Sally Herships as she discusses how she uses AI in her own work (sparingly) but mostly she’ll cover her new project, SFAI, a new tool which can detect if AI has scraped your work to train its models and then gives you a report with the details. Sally will be joined by her colleague, Pulitzer Prize-winning editorial cartoonist Mark Fiore. There will be plenty of time for questions.

Would you like to know if AI has scraped your work to train its models? This is an age when journalists, writers and artists of all kinds have to aggressively protect the copyright of their work. AIR member Sally Herships is working on a new project, SFAI, the Artificial Intelligence Agency of San Francisco, which tells you if AI has scraped your work to train its models and gives you a report with the details. AIR is partnering with SFAI and seeking a few volunteers. SFAI will run searches on your work to see if it was scraped. In exchange you’ll share feedback on the process. Sign up if you’re interested.
