- Jun 25: Crime House, the true crime brand from PAVE Studios, is working with Supporting Cast to power premium subscriptions. Crime House+ is also available on Apple Podcasts; PAVE Studios founder Max Cutler notes that this new partnership allows a more sustainable, direct relationship with the network's audience.
- May 28: Supporting Cast claimed yesterday that it was the first podcast subscription platform to deliver gated, subscriber-only podcast video on Spotify. Competitors Supercast beg to differ: they claim Supercast has had creators publishing gated video on Spotify since April 27th. The upshot of all of this is that we now have twice the opportunity to offer video as a paid-for upsell (on Spotify).
- May 27: Supporting Cast has become, it claims, the first podcast subscription platform to deliver gated, subscriber-only podcast video on Spotify. The company launches the new feature with two shows - Libero, a football podcast, and Legacy, a history podcast. Partnerships with Goalhanger, Vox Media, Jim Harold's Campfire, Filmspotting and Betches Media will follow later this quarter.
- May 22: Memberships (which "will launch for select creators soon") appears to be an equivalent to Supporting Cast, Patreon or Apple Podcasts Premium Subscriptions. Pricing and details weren't given.
- May 21: Across the world, the podcast economy grew 23% last year, says new data from Owl & Co. Global podcasting is now worth $9.2bn in revenue, says the data. The biggest increase came from direct ad revenue, but revenue from consumers (membership tools like Patreon and Supporting Cast, etc) also significantly increased, and is now worth $2.2bn alone.
