Crooked Media unveiled the audio trailer and details for the second season of journalist Phillip Picardi’s Unholier Than Thou, a fan-favorite that explores the intersection of the saintly and secular, debuting October 8th. Over 10 episodes, Picardi will continue his introspective examination of the role of religion and spirituality in our daily lives through the lenses of pop culture and politics. Springing from the emotional chaos of the pandemic, this season of Unholier Than Thou is all about the wisdom of everyday people falling down, getting up, and trying new things as they try to navigate a newish world. In a time where we’re stretched for answers, bored of scrolling and too tired to research it all ourselves, Picardi acts as a perceptive guide that curates ideas and actionable advice for listeners on how to feel better, with the help of friends, strangers, and celebrities. His first guests include recording artist, author and living legend Michelle Williams, former Teen Vogue editor, Samhita Mukhopadhyay, and writers Aminatou Sow and Michael Arceneaux.

Some people came out of the pandemic with a new skill, new spouse, or new lease on life, and others came out with a divorce, a drinking problem, or an identity crisis. No matter how the last year treated you, Picardi is back to guide listeners through the spiritual conundrums that tend to crop up amidst global catastrophe. Also this season, Picardi will take listeners along his pilgrimage from Los Angeles all the way to the harrowed halls once roamed by Elle and Bruiser Woods: Harvard. This fall, he will join Harvard Divinity School as one of 13 students accepted to the prestigious university’s Masters of Religion and Public Life Program as his search for illumination continues.

“The first season of Unholier was a very personal exploration during one of the hardest times we have experienced as a global community. This second season continues that journey as I drive deeper into the connection between us and spirituality of all kinds, with some of the greatest guests I’ve had to date,” said host Phillip Picardi.

“We’re thrilled to bring Phillip back for a second season on Unholier Than Thou,” said Sandy Girard, Senior Vice President of Programming, Crooked. “This season, Phillip will invite listeners to explore some of the big questions that we’ve all been asking ourselves in these unprecedented times. Phillip and his guests will share personal and transformative stories about their careers, relationships with family and friends and how their spiritual practice plays a part in all of this and more.”

Phillip Picardi is an award-winning journalist and editor best known for rebranding Teen Vogue, crafting the politically-aware strategy that made the publication the fastest growing women’s magazine on digital media. During his time in publishing, he also founded Condé Nast’s first-ever LGBTQ+ platform and served as the editor-in-chief of Out.

About Crooked Media

Crooked believes that we need a better conversation about politics, culture, and the world around us -- one that doesn’t just focus on what’s broken, but what we can do to fix it. At a time when it’s increasingly easy to feel cynical or hopeless, former Obama staffers Jon Favreau, Jon Lovett, and Tommy Vietor have created a place where people can have honest conversations and tell stories that inform, entertain, and inspire action. In 2017 they started Crooked with Pod Save America—a no-bullshit conversation about politics. Since then, we’ve continued to add new shows, voices, and opportunities for activism through our Vote Save America platform, because it’s up to each of us to do our part to engage in our democracy and build a better world.
