Story Editor, Government Secrets Show

Salary range: $26,400 to $62,400 (yearly rate) - subject to experience
Wondery seeks to engage a Story Editor for a new weekly narrative nonfiction show about the secrets and lies behind the world’s most powerful institutions. CIA cover-ups, secret operations, and declassified military missions and disasters. This series will untangle the threads of hidden histories, sifting through the fog of misinformation to reveal the truth.
This role will collaborate with a team of researchers/associate producers, and writers to launch and run this weekly show. If you’re a leader and a team player with strong story editing skills, a bias for action, an ear for post-production, and an interest in a flexible work arrangement, we want to hear from you.
COMPENSATION FOR SERVICES This is a project-based 1099 independent contractor position. Story editing assignments are booked on an episode-by-episode basis. We’re looking for someone to start ASAP. Estimated compensation for this position ranges from $1100-$1300 per episode. Compensation is negotiable based on experience, skillset, and location. This position does not provide health, retirement, or pension benefits.
KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Manage the relationship with writers, including meeting with them for kick off and feedback calls as needed.
- Provide structural feedback and substantial line edits on one outline draft for each series arc and three drafts of each script.
- Ensure that each episode has a clear three-act structure and each set of episodes has a compelling thematic arc.
- Review at least two book sources (when available) and/or articles, documentaries and podcasts to help understand, shape and fact check stories.
- Apply the highest of editorial and journalistic standards as these are real people’s stories.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- 4 - 7 years of experience writing and editing long-form highly-scripted nonfiction shows.
- Proven track record for stellar audio writing and audio story editing.
- Self-starter with the ability to think critically and independently.
- Ability to match the show’s tone and style and ensure consistency across episodes.

- Bachelor’s Degree preferred but not required
- Interest in government and military mysteries
