Study: Spotify never recommends Joe Rogan

• In his first blog for Bumper, Dan Misener looks closely at how podcast recommendations work in Spotify: and makes the surprising discovery that, while 14% of recommendations are to Spotify’s own shows, Joe Rogan is never promoted to users. (Misener is speaking at Podcast Movement).

• Blubrry is to offer transcripts and captions within its player and in the RSS feed, for apps that support the podcast:transcript feature of Podcasting 2.0. All Blubrry customers will receive a trial until Sep 15; a paid service is powered by Rev, though you can also upload SRT and VTT transcripts from third parties. • How many podcasts are still in production? A surprisingly small number, according to research from Amplifi Media and Podnews. (Amplifi Media’s Steven Goldstein is at Podcast Movement)

• PodInbox has released chat rooms for podcasters. A proprietary system using simple text chat, they are available for all PodInbox users. (Pat Cheung from PodInbox is speaking at Podcast Movement)

• In Singapore, Channel News Asia has announced a slate of new original podcasts.

  • The host of True Crime Reporter, Robert Riggs, is to speak at Podcast Movement later this week about the process of taking your podcast onto television.

• Dave Jackson has made a video on how to set up your podcast for value4value with Alby
• Adam Curry and Dave Jones are speaking at Podcast Movement this Wednesday.
• Blubrry’s new captions (above) follow the podcast:index standard, so should display in a number of apps including PodcastAddict, Podverse and Podfriend. They join Buzzsprout in supporting the standard.
• Mike Dell reports that he has been appointed “Podcasting 2.0 Project Manager” at Blubrry. This is the first subject matter expert for the new podcast namespace that we’re aware of in the industry.
• Podverse is to introduce streaming sats soon (they already support boosts), after a playback library used by the project has been upgraded.

Mumbai Crime has joined Radiotopia, and releases a new season today based on the novel that inspired the film “Slumdog Millionaire”. The show was previously released as a radio drama for BBC Radio 4 in the UK.

Tig and Cheryl: True Story makes it to episode 100 today - a podcast where comedians Tig Notaro and Cheryl Hines discuss a zeitgeist-y documentary “with plenty of hilarious diversions and memorable stories along the way”. The show is now on Headgum.

Recapped At First Sight launches today - a companion podcast to the reality TV show Married At First Sight UK. Produced by Create, it is hosted by Kat Shoob and former MAFS star Bob Voysey.
